Otley Chevin? Let me tell you about my time there.
I’ll paint the picture for you - we’re waiting at the bus stop because my housemate’s friend is on the bus and we intend to join her. THEN - DISASTER STRIKES.
It transpired that her bus has already passed us.
We rush to my friend Josh’s car and speedily make our way to the Otley Chevin park.
We’re there for my housemates birthday, just so you know. Such a wonderful location truly is the most appropriate way to celebrate.
We arrive there to meet my housemate’s friend, Meg. She handled the delay very well indeed!
We spent the next hour or so strolling up a hill and sat at surprise view for what can only be described as an indulgence into the wonders of the marriage between Mother Nature and human society! Such lovely views of fields and hills as well as the beautiful architecture of the town below!
Then, for a tasty pint or two, we made our way to a local pub called The Royalty. I had a couple of pints whilst Josh, our driver, had a couple of cool refreshing Pepsi’s. The views again were surprisingly beautiful and it was enjoyable to watch the planes rushing along the runway at Leeds-Bradford airport.
On the way home, my other housemate played some distasteful music in the car which soured the overall experience.
On the whole, however, I can’t recommend this area enough! A fun day out for family or friends and a great way to appreciate nature away from the busy city life that Leeds...
Read moreThis place is beautiful. It's no wonder that so many families come to stroll around the many different footpaths.
The footpaths are fairly well built and although there are some boggy areas, for the most part they are solid.
There are plenty of maps located around to help and also there to show you the many different paths to take.
As with any walks, I would be prepared with a good strong pair of walking boots. As mentioned before, there can be some boggy areas which could ruin a good pair of trainers. Also be prepared to share the area with mountain bikers, horse riders and dog walkers. All of which adds to the great feel of togetherness that comes from walking around here. If you say hello to passing folk, they will almost certainly smile and say hello back.
There is normally an ice cream vendor in 1 of the car parks.
Bring a camera and take some pictures of the breathtakingly beautiful Yorkshire...
Read moreOutlet Chevin is a "forest park" maintained by Leeds City Council as a public open space. It's just outside Otley, some 10 miles or so NW of Leeds. It's freely accessible - and quite popular! But it's big enough to absorb a large number of people. You can wander through the woods as you please or just enjoy the spectacular views over Wharfedale. ("Chevin" comes from an old British word for a ridge of high ground.) There are car parks and strategically located pubs! And of course the town of Otley is nearby as well. Accessible also by public transport - buses run along the main road at the foot of the Chevin. Just a pleasant place to enjoy doing nothing...
