We came here for lunch after a lovely day clay pigeon shooting.

We were hungry after shooting and decided to come here as it was next door. Once we arrived we spoke to a waitress and explained we had no booking but asked if we could we have lunch there, we were conscious that there was 7 of us so we might not get a table with no reservation but we were flexible and happy to eat there if they had space or happy to go somewhere else. They explained that we could sit down at a table but there may be a wait on food. We said no problem, we’ll have a pint and wait to be able to order food!

After we ordered a pint, we were informed that we could actually in fact eat which was great so we looked at the menu and ordered.

Two of our party had specific dietary requirements and asked if they could have a side as a starter size, to which they kindly said yes and the food was ordered.

The food came quick enough, we ate it. Out of everything we ordered it was average at best. The chicken burger was so dry that the coleslaw was needed to lubricate the burger to be able to eat. The roast was plain with no seasoning, just very bland and average but something to fill the tummy!

After we finished, our plates were cleared and then we asked for the bill.

Upon receiving the bill, one of the sides which was the portobello mushroom was charged at £8 per portion which we thought was a bit steep considering that they were so small they gave us 2 per portion and even then both didn’t equate to a full sized big portobello mushroom. It had nothing else on it, just a single small mushroom on a plate, with no toppings, no seasoning - just plain, no thrills.

So one of our party questioned this and asked why it was so much (we had ordered 2 portions so it was £16 all together) and explained that she didn’t think that we should pay that much as she doesn’t think it’s worth it, especially when an entire child’s roast is priced at £10 (which is only £2 more and you get a lot more for the price).

The waitress then told us that we could have our £16 back but none of us were ever welcome in the establishment…. Which seems a very odd way to react to a worthy complaint that wasn’t expressed with aggression or nastiness, just a very matter of fact questioning about something on the bill - which is usually quite a normal thing that can happen when someone’s paying the bill.

Extremely unhappy with the response to something that seems quite trivial and the way that it was handled, it feels like a very extreme way to react to a very normal and reasonable question.

We might of come back if we came for a walk in the Chevin, but obviously not now. There’s no love lost in our recent banning as it’s extremely over priced and very underwhelming! Just be careful if you go there and you don’t like the chefs food, because you get what...

Absolutely awful experience. Arrived and ordered drinks. My partner though he might order a dessert as dinner service had finished. Went to go into the very large conservatory overlooking the great views - and told we couldnt go in - even though the whole pub was apparently closing at 9pm - this was 8.35pm.

There was a large table of diners, and maybe 5 empty tables. We said we'd just be sitting so wouldnt need to clear up after us. Told no, we can't sit in there, - we could sit in the very small dark room by the bar overlooking the main road with no view, because we didnt have dinner. Apparenly they had asked the manager and they had said no.

Then told we could sit on the patio overlooking the view instead, even though it was a pretty cold damp eveand had been raining for 2 days so not nice out. Went out there, sat down, someone came straight out and told us we couldnt sit there either.

Told we can sit the OTHER side of the fence which fenced in the patio. Told them how unwelcoming they were making us feel, - told that it was the managers word.

So tried to go outside to THAT area - and all gates closed from patio, door from conservatory also closed, told we had to walk back out through the restaurant, then pub area, pub to the front, then back round to the back. Also - as leaving at 9pm as told, others arriving, walked in and asked if still serving and told "yes". And still a roomfull of diners who were nowhere near leaving so what difference would it make to let us have our drinks at a small table in there?

Anyway, you wouldn't want spend long here as it goes as directly under flight path of Leeds Bradford Airport just as the planes take off, every 20 mins, v early morning until after midnight so extremely noisy.

Absolutely the most disgusting, revolting, unfriendly, unwelcoming treatment we've had in a pub, made to feel like a piece of dirt - regret spending a signle penny in...

We recently went for a Sunday roast; our expectations were high due to the mostly good reviews. However, this was sadly a disappointing experience for a number of issues. I ordered the garlic and thyme chicken breast, I was expecting a succulent chicken breast full of flavour, instead the breast was flattened, dry and overcooked. other elements of the dish were also poor - the large single parsnip was so undercooked I struggled to cut it (I do like crunchy veg, but this sole parsnip felt like it had only glanced at the oven!), the mashed potato was a tad lumpy, the gravy was watery and lacked any depth of flavour, and although the carrots were okay, there was not enough on the plate. The reason I have not given this just one star is that the Yorkshire pudding was cooked reasonably well and the roast potatoes were okay. Also, the young man serving us was courteous, friendly and helpful so I have scored the service high. He apologised when I brought attention to some issues especially the raw parsnip, he responded by informing me that there had been complaints of the parsnips being overdone earlier in the service - overcompensation on the chefs part. Had my partner and I not felt so ravenous having only had an early breakfast many hours before, we probably would have sent the food back. Maybe we just caught the restaurant on a bad day, as we overheard other customers also complaining, but from my experience, and also as they are, in my view, overcharging at £15.50, I would not recommend going there for a Sunday roast; there are other places that serve far better...

We booked in at The Royalty recently on a very stormy evening with torrential wind and rain. We were seated in the conservatory area overlooking the nearby valley. The atmosphere was great, sitting in a country pub with the weather battering against the windows outside whilst we were warm inside. We ordered drinks and they came relatively quickly. The food menu has a good selection of choice to pick from. I went for the fish and chips. When the food arrived we were happy with the quality and portion sizes. The food tasted good and we enjoyed our meals. We then went on to have dessert, which we only tend to do if we really enjoy our mains when we visit such places. The dessert i had was a chocolate and raspberry tart, which tasted great. My only minor gripe would be I wish the female server had smiled a little more, as we didn't know if she was just quiet or genuinely troubled. Will definitely go again the next time we're in the area.

We just went here for a mid week car meet, so we stayed in the car park. The views are amazing. The restaurant was closed but the chef put up 'Takeaway' food which was amazing. My fish finger (not Birds Eye !!!) sandwich was incredible with its chargrilled doorstop bread slices, fragrant tartare sauce and salad presented in a box. I noticed that the Fish and Chips and Burgers etc were also on an equally high plain. To cap it all the owner ran about the car park trying to identify those who had ordered the food so he could deliver it. Service beyond the call and with a smile

On entering the car park 1 st impression were the spectacular views whichever way you look, straight forward you're looking down onto Leeds/Bradford airport, over to the right there is a clay pigeon shoot , 1/2 mile down the road is the chevin forest . Inside the pub , typical country atmosphere very helpful and friendly a good selection of wines, Beers etc , there is a dog friendly section away from the restaurant, part of the restaurant has a large conservatory looking over the airport, the food is fine and served with a smile, all in all a pleasant day.
