Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Crane Park in Hanworth for the very first time, and I must say, it was an adventure that exceeded all my expectations. My initial plan was a simple one – to take a leisurely stroll amidst nature’s beauty – but little did I know that this visit would turn into a remarkable journey.
Crane Park, spread across approximately 30 acres, is a serene oasis right in the heart of West London. What immediately struck me was the picturesque setting, with the meandering River Crane gently flowing through lush greenery. The park’s landscape is a harmonious blend of woodlands, meadows, and wetlands, creating a haven for wildlife. As I walked along the well-maintained paths, I couldn’t help but notice the diverse birdlife, including ducks and swans, that call this place home.
What adds a unique layer of charm to Crane Park is its rich history. This very location was once home to the Hounslow Gunpowder Mills, a site of critical importance during World War I. While exploring the park, you can still come across remnants of this historical past, offering a glimpse into the area’s significance.
Now, here’s the delightful twist to my visit: during my walk, I found myself crossing over into Twickenham, following the scenic route along the river. And to my astonishment, I stumbled upon Kneller Gardens. It was an unexpected bonus to my visit, and I must say, Kneller Gardens is just as charming. The well-maintained gardens with their colorful blooms and tranquil ponds offered a different but equally enchanting atmosphere.
Crane Park and Kneller Gardens together made for an unforgettable day of exploration. It’s the kind of experience that reminds you of the hidden treasures our cities have to offer. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a history buff, or just someone looking for a peaceful place to unwind, this area has it all.
So, if you’re in the area, I wholeheartedly recommend visiting Crane Park and keeping an open mind for unexpected adventures. It’s a journey through nature, history, and the delightful surprises that make exploring new places so incredibly rewarding. 🌳🚶♂️🌼 #CranePark #KnellerGardens...

I'll never forget the first time I met Craig. I was sat on a bench by the stream that runs through the park. It was a warm day, yet it had just started to rain. It wasn't too heavy, and actually quite pleasant for a while. However, after about 10 minutes, I was soaked through, and the paper lantern that I was holding had been transformed into a mess of wire and mush.
Craig flew down from a nearby tree and sat atop the bench, using his wings as feathery brakes. He turned to me and said "nice weather for ducks". He was right. "You are looking a tad soggy there young man". Right again. "Stay there, I think I can help". And with that he flew up into the trees.
It was a few moments later, when I was a little startled by a rustling in the branches of an adjacent tree, as an object came crashing down on it's way towards earth. Then, I witnessed a navy blue umbrella plummet from the canopy and land with a soft thud on the grass beside the bench. I was so distracted by this that I didn't notice that Craig had reappeared next to me on the other side of the bench. So I was a little taken aback when he said "there you go chum, get that thing up and above your head, we can't have you getting a cold out here".
Well of course, I thanked him profusely, and we had a lovely chat on a wide range of interesting subjects. We have remained firm friend ever since. In fact, he was the best man at my...
