Not really worth the money It’s very small , not very many butterflies and absolutely packed Probably got off to a bad start as the volunteer ( who didn’t seem like she really wanted to be there ) was quite rude first about where to queue although as there’s no sign explaining where to stand I’m not sure why she got so narky and then the way she spoke to my granddaughter about not touching the butterflies Not so much what she said as how she said it We left pretty quickly and as neither of us wanted to go and look at the dead animals inside which I find rather depressing we went to see the live ones Only seemed to be 2 alpacas , a ram and a sheep although access to some of the paths was locked so maybe there was more The butterfly house at Bourne House in Bexley is much better and cheaper too Today I received a questionnaire about my visit which I found quite bemusing After the kind of questions you’d expect they become about if I engage with politics and my gender status 🙈🙈 What on earth this has to do with a museum full of Victorian taxidermy and some over priced exhibits I will never understand There’s clearly a lot of people who enjoy this museum but I found it over priced ( the gift shop was ridiculously expensive) and rather...
Read moreIt is quite pricey for a small butterfly house, but I liked it anyway. There were a lot of butterflies flying around, resting on leaves, feeding on enctar from flowers, or on the feeding station. There was a puparium full of cocoon, and small bits of information all around. I even saw one caterpillar.
I particularly liked seeing the Blue Morpho butterflies flitting about, they were very pretty. There are staff members who can answer your questions, but I used Google Gemini to tell me more facts.
You really don't need to spend a long time in here, as little as 10 minutes. I spent about 45 minutes, because I wanted my money's worth and to enjoy seeing all I could of...
Read moreFabulous place! I feel this is quite an unique little area in London. There are lots of beautiful butterflies to see! The kids loved it and adults alike. Some of the creatures are tame and I had a few land on me, and for reason some were fascinated with my trainers! The member of staff there was a star and very helpful. She was happy to provide a 'removal' service should you need to evict a butterfly from your arm or head! It did feel like a sauna in there, fir obvious reasons. I felt the entry fee was reasonable and there's a small shop on site selling various souvenirs. Well recommended as part of your Horniman...
