Despite living in the area for fifty years, I had never been to Roxbourne Park until recently. My Sister had visited it when attending Pinner Grammar School but not for a while. This park offers much whether for simply walking, children's play area with usual equipment, adults exercise equipment, marked pitches for football and cricket all close to the Cannons Lane end. Continuing past the changing rooms pavilion (closed at the moment, May 2021) you enter green grassed areas with many trees. Ideal for strolling, children's safe area to run about or picnics. To the left as you continue that way is Yeading Brook at a lower level with a rough path alongside (bikes can be ridden along but it not really suitable for prams, pushchairs or wheelchairs. Very narrow in places with a couple of steepish slopes). Staying at the higher level and continuing on, you eventually reach the miniature railway (again, closed at the moment). Read moreThis is a lovely park. It is quite big. On one side there is a playground with Wicksteed play equipment in it. They have kept a couple of bits of the old playground equipment too. On the other side there is a miniature railway. This runs on a Sunday in peak time. I believe 2:30-5pm. There is lots of green space for running around and picnics. No shade in playground, but plenty of trees for shade just outside the playground. The post code took us to a road (Castleton Road) and we parked there and walked down an allyway and then walked to the playground. Alternatively we did see a carpark nearer the playground. There is a carpark by the miniature railway too or you can walk. My girls loved the playground and...
Read moreBig park, but the most interesting part for my grandchildren is the Roxboune mini railway. Very nice place for small children who have grown up playing with Thomas the Tank Engine, Chuggington et al.
Only on Sundays and only during spring to autumn--late March to mid-October. £1 for a ride, but an adult has to accompany the child, so £2 a ride is the real cost. Children under 2 years of age go free. Trains are run from 2.30pm to 5.00pm. May not run if weather is not good.
There are about 25 parking spaces close to the "railway station". Entry is via the gates on Field End Rd. There doesn't appear to be any...
