We were a family of 7 including 2 kids and visited Mumbai Local Rayners Lane for dinner on 29th December. When we reached the restaurant only 2 tables were occupied. We placed the order for our starters. When the starters arrived we were shocked to find 2 large pieces of hard and sharp plastic in our Tum tum soya chaap. The pieces were large enough to cause serious harm to the mouth or teeth. We called the waiter to report this, the lady said she was the manager of the restaurant that day. She asked if we wanted to order a different item instead of the soya chaap, but we requested the soya chaap again. In the meanwhile we had also ordered our mains. Our mains arrived but the replacement soya chaap had still not come. Shockingly there was a long black hair in our paneer tikka masala! On top of it all we never received the replacement soya chaap! We showed this to the manager lady and expressed our serious concerns about the food hygiene in the restaurants kitchen. At first the manager did not seem very concerned but when we told her that 2 of our family members were medical doctors, she looked a bit concerned. Our meal had by now already been ruined and the kids were longing for something sweet. So we ordered 5 masala teas and a kulfi for the kids. The manager brought the teas and the kulfi and told us that the teas and desserts were complimentary and that we could order any more desserts we wished as a complimentary measure. We decided to order a few more desserts as the dinner to be honest had been quite disappointing. We had ordered 2 chocolate cakes but only got 1. When we queried this to the manager she said that they had run out of the cake, despite other tables being served the dish after us. When we went to make the payment, to our absolute surprise we were charged for all the teas and all desserts apart from one. When queried, the manager completely turned around on what she had offered us and said she did not offer the complimentary teas and only offered one complimentary dessert! The level of service at this restaurant is appalling and the food hygiene is horrendous and far below acceptable. I would avoid this restaurant...

Average food. Decent service. Unfair billing.

Seeing the name "Mumbai" we decided to give a try hoping to enjoy some Mumbai delicacies. We ordered chole bhature, bhel puri, veg biryani, crispy bhajiya and poori bhaji.

Chole bhature - bhature ok, but chole are below par. They lacked flavors

Bhel puri - very dry. Again, no flavors

Veg biryani - this was decent. Had nice flavors of aromatic spices and saffron, but wasn't spicy (as in mirch), in spite we asking for.

Crispy bhajiya - very good

Poori bhaji - absolutely poor. Been a Mumbaikar, I have enjoyed PB at several joints. Never before have I seen a bhaji that's got peppers and made of red masala base ( usually it is from turmeric base). Ignoring the colour, the taste itself was poor.

The prices aren't reasonable either. We paid on average £8 for these dishes that we didn't enjoy.

What was worse is the final bill included a service charge of 12.5% for a group of 5.

I was not given the itemized bill initially, just the payment amount. It's only after payments, I felt like we were paying little more than anticipated, that I asked for itemized bill. Cheekily the person at the till handed me the bill.

I usually take add pictures in my reviews, but on this occasion, you can rest assured, there's nothing worthy a post other...

My wife and I went to Mumbai Local in Rayners Lane for an afternoon lunch. The place looked good. We ordered 2 dishes a nan and plain rice. So, my wifes food came in reasonable time, but as we were together I was expecting both our meals to come at the same time. We asked where my food was, I don't think they were very helpful. Anyway my wife finished eating her food, and mine still had not come, now it as 25mins. so much for eating together. We asked a further 3 times where my food was, but nothing come. In the end we had to leave. But what was a bit annoying was that the owner or the senior person there quickly tried to call the kitchen to try and get the food to us, but it really was too late we were leaving, she tried to stall for time by being on the phone. The reason is I think because on the menu it says once food is ordered it cannot be cancelled. She was not being helpful at all, no apology and made us pay for wifes food, remember I had not eaten!. All in all, nice place, but things here go wrong, and the staff are not helpful, and have care free attititude, we wont be visiting this place again. It just seems to me that this restaurant is happy to take your money and could not care less when things go wrong, and no apology would ever be offered....

Came here after many years. It was absolutely terrible! Alarm bells should have been ringing as it was a Friday night and the restaurant was not busy. I'm usually quite selective where I eat in the North West London area for Indian food. One of the people I was with really wanted to go here. Service wasn't great as soon as we arrived. No real welcome, smiles or customer service. Got to the table and I had to ask for the menus rather than be given them. Ordered drinks. Cobra Draught beer was flat and not even cold. Ordered the following starters: - Crispy Bhajia (arrived really fast, were dark brown and just refried old ones) - Chilli Tofu (couldn't eat it, the batter was awful and the tofu was off) - Sev Chaat (the brown chutney was off, couldn't eat it) Garlic Chilli Mogo (this was okay but nowhere near the standards of competitors) Uthapathum (not cooked in the middle and the sambal wasn't fresh) The waiter asked how the food was and we did give feedback to him. He didn't seem that bothered. They did take the Sev Chaat of the bill. We didn't order mains as the starters were so bad. We just went home and made food lol. Overall, this is one of the worst restaurants I have been to in a long time. I would avoid and would not recommend.

Well I was quite disappointed with the food quality during my recent visit Mumbai local Rayners Lane. Instead of noodles, vermicelli was served, which is not what I expected. Also, green peas were added to the fried rice Who adds green peas into fried rice? It felt more like a veg pulao than actual fried rice, which really doesn’t go with the typical recipe or taste. On top of that, the Manchow soup was overly thick, it felt more like a gravy than soup.— it had more consistency than the fried rice itself. It didn’t feel like a proper Manchow soup at all. Kindly pay attention to authenticity and ingredient choices. This experience did not meet the standard I was hoping for. . Instead of noodles, we were given vermicelli — that’s not acceptable. Only one dish stood out — the sizzler tandoori paneer, which was genuinely well made and flavorful. Drink was good enough On top of that, they charged 12% service charges — nearly £10 — but we had to serve ourselves, no spoon was given in the serving dish, and we even had to go to the counter to pay the bill. What exactly was the service charge for? This experience was honestly disappointing and far from what we expected.
