Terrible service, food repeatedly cold or just generally late. been here well over a dozen times now, probably had good service twice MAYBE three times at a push, yes the service is bad even when it's quiet! Sometimes an hour for a dosa at 11am. To add one of the only positives to this place, if the food comes in under 30 minutes and it's hot - it is USUALLY very good. But everything else means it's not worth it - go to any other veg place.
Today I decided no more, cancelled my order and walked out because my dad had already finished eating his cold pongal, friend had to ask for ice for his lassi because it was warm. Won't be returning, other reviews would think this has gone on for a while so they clearly can't fix it.
Told my dad I won't be joining him for breakfast here anymore because if it happens again I'm going to say something to your staff I will regret. thanks but no thanks, attached was what ended up being my "lunch" for an afternoon out.
Bearing in mind I only come here when my Dad is staying with me, so we are usually going to this place on consecutive days, which means it's not a one-off and we got unlucky, we can see this happen several days in a row both when it's quiet and busy it's the same service. If it's quiet, chefs sleeping and you wait 40mins-1hr for food. If it's busy, you still wait an hour because they're busy.
First time I went to this place I thought it was amazing and the best veg food in West London. But it has gone downhill ever since and the inconsistency is not worth the trip. A lot of the wait staff simply don't care whether your food is late or comes or not. There's a two good ones, but the rest like "Rush" for example; you walk in and see him and you know it's gonna be bad service and even my Dad turned me to me once and said "that boy is useless" after he forgot my Raita and my Dad's coffee (yes this is another visit) - by the time the raita had arrived (the coffee never came despite being asked for twice) I'd almost finished my food; if I had waited it would have gone cold. The guy can't even...
Read moreI've always had excellent experiences at Saravana Bhavan locations across London. However, my recent visit to the Rayners Lane branch left much to be desired. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and seated promptly, which was appreciated after an hour of walking. Eager for refreshments, we ordered coffee and lassi while perusing the menu for our main meal.
Our initial interaction with the server was pleasant, but things took a turn when another staff member abruptly snatched our menu away, insisting that one was sufficient for our table. Despite explaining that we were still in the midst of deciding, our request fell on deaf ears as she swiftly returned the menu to its stack. This unexpected and dismissive behavior left us feeling bewildered and frustrated.
Furthermore, the manner in which the staff member strode through the restaurant after snatching the menu away seemed to exude an air of self-importance, as if she had accomplished some great feat. This added insult to injury, amplifying our feelings of disbelief and disappointment at the lack of professionalism displayed. Such behavior only served to further diminish the overall dining experience and left a lasting impression that was far from favorable.
we opted to settle the bill and leave. However, as we departed, I couldn't help but notice a sign on the wall proclaiming a zero-tolerance policy for any form of abuse directed towards the staff. While I fully support creating a respectful environment for all, it's disheartening when the same courtesy isn't extended to customers.
In conclusion, while I've always enjoyed the food and service at Saravana Bhavan, this particular incident left a sour taste in my mouth. I hope that steps will be taken to ensure all customers are treated with the same level of respect and courtesy that they are expected to...

(Edit: Please visit other restaurants in London e.g. OmNoms or Shayona to learn how excellent food is cooked without Onions and Garlic). Remember - the customer is always right Mr Sandhanu.
Reading all the reviews and how the manager made me feel as if the problem was due to my taste, I am going to take this complaint further and get this place investigated as this is not on. He ruined our evening and now I'm going to see what steps I can take as the food was the worst I've ever had at a restaurant and needs to be looked into by the food standards authorities as he did not even bother to apologise for how we felt.
We requested food with no onion garlic and they bought out the worst tasting food. Served with ketchup as if this is some kind of school dinners. The waiter was very unhelpful when ordering and at the end could not care less when we gave feedback about the food. He just put his card machine forward and walked off with nothing to say. Awful service - they kept piling on plates despite no space on the table.
Not happy at all, and won’t be returning especially because the manager also was just defending himself. The paneer rice and paneer noodles also also had no taste. Maybe he should visit places in India where they cook delicious food without onion and garlic and retrain his staff and change the mindset towards how sattvic food is made.
The owner said this is the first time ever that people gave such feedback, clearly he thinks I'm an idiot as other reviews have also complained about noodles, rice etc. Remove the arrogance too - we paid you £53 so learn to speak with respect rather than engaging in back and forth argument. So unprofessional. Your staff also have no smile on...
