Avoid unless you happy to pay more than Virgin gym Avoid at all cost!!! Worst gym/health centre ever!! I have been paying ÂŁ93 per month for the use of the swimming pool, sauna, and steam room, but the quality of these services falls far below expectations, and recent changes to their policies (policy was there before, but no late charges until September)have caused further dissatisfaction.
Firstly, the cancellation policy is misleading. On the app, there is no clear indication of the 20-day cancellation notice period. This only becomes apparent after pressing the 'cancel' option, which I believe is a deliberate lack of transparency. Secondly, the ÂŁ3 no-show/late cancellation fee, which was introduced in mid-September without proper notice or any form of approval from existing members, is completely unjustified. Had I known this fee would be applied, I would have never signed up for this membership.
I have always attended my sessions, though I may arrive 10â15 minutes late on occasion. They suggested that I must wait for the full two-hour time frame to end before confirming my attendance is absurd and unreasonable. There is no logical reason why I should remain for an additional 30 minutes after finishing my session, purely for their system to update.
The state of the facilities is substandard:
Sauna benches are slimy and dirty. Sharp, broken mosaic tiles litter the steam room. Puddles near the drainage in the spa often have black, worm-like organisms in them. The swimming pool is overcrowded, making it unusable during peak hours. Only about 30% of the wristband-locking lockers in the changing rooms are functional.
Additionally, I once waited over 20 minutes for towels and bathrobes(usually is only 10 which is barely acceptable), significantly reducing my time in the spa and resulting in a no-show fee which was not waived. This points to a serious issue with understaffing at reception, where there is often a long wait for assistance with any request.
To make matters worse, their app system for tracking attendance is unreliable, leading to unjust no-show fees being applied to my account. I have had to call customer service multiple times to have these fees waived, and I was recently informed that they will no longer do so because too many fees have already been reversed in September. This is unacceptable, and a clear breach of contract, as I attended my sessions. Penalising me for system errors violates the basic contractual expectation of fair treatment.
Virgin gym is ÂŁ93 a month when they have sales, much better in...
Read moreAt my little brotherâs birthday party, I encountered several issues that affected my overall experience.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the party host, who provided valuable information and assistance. However, I found his accessibility to be somewhat limited. I had to search for him to engage in conversation, which would have been more convenient if he had been provided with a phone number for easy communication.
The party experienced a significant setback approximately 40 minutes into the celebration. I attempted to locate the party host but was unable to do so. Instead, I approached a desk worker who exhibited extreme rudeness and an unpleasant attitude. When I inquired about the number of meals prepared for the party, she responded with an unprofessional remark, suggesting that I should have planned better for such a significant event. This was particularly disappointing considering that she was an employee responsible for handling children.
Despite my repeated requests for clarification, the workerâs response remained the same. Recognising that she was unwilling to assist, I left the party in frustration. To my dismay, I discovered that two servings of food were missing for the children. This could have been avoided if the worker had informed me that additional servings could be purchased.
Moving forward, I sought to confirm whether plastic forks or spoons would be provided for the cake. However, the workers informed me that they did not provide these items or sell them. While this was understandable, it was not mentioned to me beforehand. Consequently, I had to rush to purchase them myself, as the party was approaching the cake section.
Overall, the party was satisfactory, but I would not book it again. The prices of the food were excessive for a subpar version of a Happy Meal. The meal consisted of few chicken nuggets and some poor-quality fries, charging prices that were comparable to those found at airports.
If you are considering booking a childrenâs party here, it is imperative that you take the initiative to purchase all necessary items yourself. Additionally, it is advisable to seek assistance from a friendly and approachable staff member to ensure that all details are accurately communicated and that your needs are met. Unfortunately, I was unable to find such a staff member during my visit, and I regret not...
Read moreHygiene Issues in Swimming & Locker Areas:
The state of the swimming and locker areas is honestly unacceptable. Some lockers have gum, boogers, and even worse⌠poop on the walls, seats, and doors. Itâs just disgusting. People walk in with shoes 24/7, and considering whatâs on the floors, itâs awful that children have to walk around barefoot before their swimming lessons. I just couldnât deal with it. In the end, I cancelled my little oneâs swimming lessons because of the poor hygiene.
Swimming Lessons â Not Enough Time:
Speaking of lessons, 30 minutes isnât enough time for kids to learn how to swim. By the time they get into the pool and settle, at least 10 minutes are gone, and before you know it, the lesson is over. My little one has told me multiple times, âMummy, I didnât have enough time,â which is really disappointing.
Gym Facilities & Classes:
As for the gym itself, itâs decent. I take classes there, and I appreciate that they provide sanitisers and wipes in each session. The classes also start on time, which is a plus. But Iâd never shower there absolutely not!
Unfair & Random Pricing for Fitness Classes:
One of the biggest issues is the completely random pricing for fitness classes. Some sessions are ÂŁ13, while others are ÂŁ5, ÂŁ12, or ÂŁ11.50. It makes no sense, especially since most of them are the same duration. Other, Better gyms have a standard price for all their classes, so why is this one all over the place? Thatâs very questionable and unfair.
Update: February 2025 A few more things have stood out recently:
The gym classes rarely have the regular instructors advertised on the website, so you often find yourself learning new names due to constant staff changes and cover shifts. It would be great if they offered a cycle class on Sundays because many of us work during the week and canât attend. The entry gates really need fixing. Itâs exhausting having to scan the barcode multiple times just to get in. To then have to interrupt the receptionist whoâs dealing with multiple people.
This gym honestly has potential to be way better than what it is, but the hygiene issues, inconsistent class pricing, and management inconsistencies need serious...
