Woodland wins out over Victorian industrialisation. Nature has truly taken back the land. A peaceful tranquil haven bounded by Levenshulme, Reddish and Heaton Chapel. Full of wildlife, wildflowers and mixed deciduous trees. Mostly woodland with some open space, ponds and a brook. Birds throughout the day; foxes and bats at night. The main pathways are suitable for wheelchairs, prams and cycles, although there are some slopes and not all entrances are as easy to get through as would be ideal. Wellies needed for the more minor paths. Nice picnic areas. You can see a lot more stars that you'd expect once you're properly in, with neighbouring allotments and a golf course helping reduce light pollution. Much more peaceful and cleaner air than you'd expect, given the roads and population density of the areas surrounding it. Definitely...

Highfield is, quite simply, the best park in Manchester, and the reason for that is quite simple: the park is wild. Unlike most of the other parks in the area, this vast expanse of forest and shrubbery is truly untamed, unspoiled, and unknowable. There are the few well trodden paths through the heart of the park, but the real beauty of any walk in Highfield is that, even after months of exploring, there will still be a new path that springs up every now and again, and you may find that a trail you walked just a shy week ago has already dissapeared, overgrown by frenzied thorns and thistles. The unpredictability, and the constant opportunity for exploration and discovery is fantastic. I used to say that I knew Highfield like the back of my hand but, to be honest, I don't think anybody does, and that is what makes it...

A beautiful space, I grew up nearby and always came here to play with my friends as a kid, we used to go chop all the knotweed with sticks and call ourselves samurais. It's very much a mini get away from the car filled streets and it's so close by, a real mini forest. Me and my beautiful wife frequent Highfield to get away from the noise and the hustle and bustle. Funnily enough my beautiful wife gave birth to our third beautiful daughter at the picnic area, we were very worried as it was a fast labor and we thought we couldn't get to the road in time to get an ambulance. Luckily enough people emerged from the surrounding forest and helped deliver our third beautiful daughter calmly, efficiently and with the up most sanitation that only a team of the most experienced midwife's could muster. Would go...

Went to this park yesterday for the first time. My dog was in front of me, she ran through a puddle near the bridge at the top right of the park and came out with a huge cut on her paw resulting in loads of blood loss. I rushed her to the vets, the cut was so deep and had gone across the pad of her paw and edge of the paw and needed stitches. Thankfully we have insurance. Have messaged the park Instagram and tried calling the number but no answer. Just need to warn other dog owners of the potential risk. Not sure if it was glass or metal as it was a deep puddle. Didn’t stop to look, literally ran back to my car to drive to the vets.

I took my dog today for the first time and we both loved it, we were there for around 2 hours and could easily have spent longer. It is pretty much all flat and there are lots of main paths to follow but we took the smaller paths through the wooded areas and through the middle of the fields instead so my dog could be off her lead exploring more. There were enough people around to not feel isolated but not too many that it felt crowded. I've never been before today and I already can't wait to go back and find new routes!
