Honestly couldn't recommend this place enough. As much as my 6 year old loved it too, she didn't love it for the reasons I did, I was interested in roald dahl, she was interested in the arts and crafts haha so next time, I'll go without her - and that's not in a mean way, it's just that I feel I couldn't really do the part I wanted to do without feeling mum guilt... maybe I'll wait till she's older and take her back... thing is, she knows his work, I've read his books to her alot ... sadly, they've been bed time stories so once she falls asleep, I continue reading hahaha! But, we left the museum with three new roald dahl books so I know what I'll be reading to her for a while 😄

I loved learning about him in more detail, I had read his autobiographies, but it's lovely seeing it all in person, his writing Hut etc.

The staff, wow! They are amazing, definitely have a passion for their job and it really shows!

Shout out to Helen for reading/narrating matilda so very well and getting all the kids involved, I am like her, I have several voices when I read and really go all out so it's nice to know I'm not alone there haha The kids all loved your narration and everyone, adults and children got involved with acting out the parts you encouraged us all to play.

I also need to say, the souvenir shop, wow - the prices are extremely fair! I didn't expect to be leaving with what I did for the price! I'm very impressed and I can't wait to return! - even just to buy more books 😆 they put a stamp inside the book so you can show off to friends and family that you've been to the museum, or just for a keepsake for yourself!

They haven't done what most places do when they know they have a very niche thing going on and bump prices up, even the cafe was reasonable! I do hope it stays that way!

Thank you ever so much for keeping Roalds spirit alive! I hope you continue to do what you do for a very...

Having just experienced the sheer delight of the Roald Dahl Museum, I'm still buzzing with excitement! From the moment you step inside, you're utterly transformed into the vibrant world of his stories. It's more than just a museum; it's a living, breathing experience that captivates visitors of all ages. The activities on offer for children are exceptionally well-thought-out, keeping them thoroughly entertained and engaged with Dahl's imaginative creations. And the story time? A truly brilliant touch that brings the magic of his words to life in a captivating way. But the highlight for me, and I suspect for many, was the chocolate room. To call it a dream come true is an understatement! It truly makes you feel like you've stepped right into the pages of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, evoking that same sense of wonder and possibility that Dahl masterfully created in his writing. The entire museum is so immersive; you genuinely feel like you're living in the very era that inspired his unforgettable tales. Without a doubt, a visit to the Roald Dahl Museum is 100% worth it. And the fact that his grave is located nearby offers a poignant opportunity to further connect with the author. What's truly remarkable is that the experience doesn't end when you leave the museum walls. Simply strolling through the streets of the village, you can feel the palpable inspiration that this place clearly provided for Roald Dahl. It's an amazing place, and even now, just thinking about it brings a smile to my face. If you have the chance to go,...

My kids are 4&9 - the 9 year old enjoyed it as he's read the whole of Roald Dahl's collection. Having said that, not many of the books are referenced in the museum as it's more about Dahl himself. We visited on a very rainy day, so it may be nicer to visit in dry weather as you can then explore the surrounding area.

My 4 year old ended up just running around as there wasn't much for him to do. There were a lot of buttons to press but what he was listening to wasn't interesting to him. It was very text heavy, with very few pictures for him to look at.

He enjoyed the dressing up area. He would have enjoyed the craft area, but there was only enough space for 2 families, and on a rainy day the families that were in there spent a long time in there, so we picked up the activities and brought them home.

There was a sign saying that there was more of the museum upstairs but it was actually a room for eating packed lunches.

We were there for approximately 1h30m.

My 9 year old enjoyed the stop motion animation section the most.

We used the link road car park recommended on the website, a few minutes walk, even in torrential (and I mean torrential) rain was not too bad.

There is a buggy store and cloakroom.

We would definitely visit again, but maybe in about 3 or 4 years and probably in...

Great little place to visit, good value for money, plus your ticket is valid for 12 months so you a can come back again under the same ticket. The gift shop is also very good too with some great stuff on selection available.

I thought we would spend about an hour at this museum but with six and seven year olds who have started reading Roald Dahl books it was a lot longer than that. The challenge of answering some questions/quest gave the kids (and adults) a reason to really read and look at the items on display. Each sectioned room had different features to explore of RD's life (early life/later life) as well as being hands on and making/colouring little houses and dressing up. We had a child with us who is in a wheelchair and she managed to participate with the kids. There is a lift to the upstairs section, although not much to do up there unless you sit for a story. The staff were great, willing to speak with the kids and the gift shop was all things Roald Dahl... from 85p-£1.00 erasers and pencils to £100's for a framed painting. If you have time and fancy a walk head for the church where Roald Dahl is buried and visit his gravestone. Its a lovely walk and it gave our kids time to pick flowers and say goodbye to their favourite author. (Take a left as you exit the shop, it's past some lovely little cottages and up a slope... or you can drive up and park)
