A truly exceptional, out of this world and first class museum, which gives provides an absolute masterclass and masterpiece on the subjects of cars/automobiles delivering it in a timeless, wonderful and truly memorable fashion. It is definitely the best Motor Museum in the UK without a doubt and it is like stepping into a library of motors from the start of motoring right up to the present day it is that good. The building the motor cars are housed was opened by Lord Montagu in 1972 housing a variety of motor cars. The motors on display is such a vast array you lose count but some of the motors on display include Ford Model T, Ford Sierra Cosworth, Jaguar E Type, Lotus Esprit, Audi Quattro A2 1983, Rolls Royce Phantom 40/50 II 1933 and The Mini to but a few. There are some motorbikes and scooters on show and these include Ducati, Suzuki and Honda amongst others. All of the motors are displayed in such stunning fashion and are in outstanding condition showing the great work the museum does in looking after them. The museum details the story of how cars and other automobiles came about at the end of the 19th Century and beginning of the 20th Century and charters the story up to the modern day in an informative and interesting fashion amd includes some of the motors that raised the bar for manufacturing on a large scale and broke the speed record and these include Ford Model T and Jaguar E Type to name but a few. In the motorcycle section it covers their history and how they came into being and the records and achievements that have been broken along the way. You can wander into an old garage which is called John Tucker's Garage used at the start of the 20th Century and get an idea of what was like and there is an interesting section about Shell and their history with providing fuel for the cars. The great thing is you can get a great glimpse of the cars right up and close so you can get to really admire their beauty and build quality and their status as a car. In addition to all the other motors on shows there is an F1 car exhibition showcasing some of the more memorable F1 cars over the years so you can take in their excellence and how they were functioned and engineering to perform their necessary duties. There is an exhibition about the luxury of motoring and also an exhibition called On Screen Cars where you some of the famous cars from TV & Film and the highlights include Trotters 3 wheeled van from Only Fools and Horses, The Green Jaguar from the Bond Film Die Another Day and the Ford Anglia user in the Harry Potter film Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets. There is also a small tent you can wander in and see more cars from yesteryear and have sit inside them and these include a Vauxhall Cavalier, Ford Mondeo, Volkswagen Beetle, Renault Avantime and Ford Fiesta and these is very interactive and fun allowing people to have fond memories of these vehicles when they were active on the road. There is bus rides to enjoy on the resident Beaulieu bus which is amazing and these rides just take you around the site seeing the Palace House and Abbey. There is the Brabazon Restaurant selling a variety of food and drink at very reasonable prices and there is a gift shop selling a wonderful range at very reasonable prices. Overall this is an absolute first class and out of this world place to visit and also truly special place to visit and making for a thoroughly enjoyable and wonderfully memorable day out. Definitely well worth a visit whilst in the New Forest area.

We visited the national motor museum by complete accident as we had actually booked tickets for the Haynes motor museum. Upon entering we were told we were in the wrong place and having a look at Google maps we'd actually traveled an hour in the opposite direction so to go to the Haynes museum would have taken us two hours. I've got to say that the staff here are absolutely amazing! They helped us contact Haynes motor museum and request a refund on our tickets which they wouldn't do and would lose us £70! The staff took pity on us and did their absolute best to accommodate us with a family ticket to reduce the price and I can say hand on heart we were not disappointed! The car museum is great with cars from the very beginning of motoring right up to modern cars of today along with motorbikes of all eras. On top of that we discovered much more than just a car museum! Set on the beautiful grounds of beaulieu abbey the current owner has opened up her childhood home and the remains of the abbey for anyone looking for a history lesson and it was very interesting and informative. Also on the grounds is a mini world war 2 museum that houses the story and history of the army's secret division of ww2 that were trained on the same grounds. Also as part of the motoring museum there is a part devoted to the old top gear cars and the series itself! They've actually purchased some of the cars built on the show including the Toyota Hilux! 😂 There's also a big adventure playground for the kids as well as a car show where they bring out a selection of cars with drivers dressed for the era that you can talk to about the cars. Although the restaurant is expensive the food is really good and has free water dispensers. Cars, history and beauty we'd definitely recommend this as a day out for families. Can't recommend this museum enough.

Wasn't sure what to expect when coming here. We arrived mid Feb whilst on holiday and the weather wasn't great so thought it would be a day out undercover. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The site is pretty big, we started with the top gear area which was really good, it was great to get up close to some of the wacky creations that have been made over the years. We stopped to have a bite to eat before it got busy and the prices were not to bad, probably on the slightly higher side but the cakes were very good. We moved on to the main museum and was shocked to see how many cars and bikes they have fitted into the size building. Everywhere you turn is another vehicle immaculately clean and lots of info about it. The range of vehicles is huge from the 1st cars right up to modern ones. We especially loved the 007 exhibit where you could get up close to the cars from the most recent film, it was nice to be able to get so close without them being on plinths meters away. There is a vintage bus ride and a monorail that will take you around the site which was nice to do. We took a look around the Abbey and house (included in the price of ticket) and had a stroll along the river. If you Gift aid you get to come back within the year but what wasn't made clear at the time was when you come back you only get entry to the motor museum and no other attraction or house which was a little disappointing. The only thing that really let it down for us despite being a fairly quiet day trying to get lunch between 12 and 2 results in a long wait and queue. There are plenty of picnic spots so on a sunny day I think this would be a great place to go but equally on a wet day it's a good day out if you don't mind getting a little wet as you walk between the exhibits / house and gardens.

The park and the motor museum were beautiful and in the main museum itself the vehicles were all in fantastic condition and the collection was truly fantastic. Unfortunately that only spreads to the main museum. The world of top gear exhibit has to be mentioned here as that is or should I say was a big reason why a lot of people went here. I won't dock the motor museum multiple stars as I understand it was majority under control from the BBC but the top gear exhibit was in an awful state with none of the cars being properly cared for with most rusting away or having flat tyres and looking very sad for themselves. Top it off with the BBC pettiness to the former hosts with most of the original cars having been scrapped a lot of the signage with the original three was taken down which for a museum was a bit sad to see the past being removed from show? Again probably to blame are the BBC but the announcement that the exhibit would be removed all together was just heartbreaking. Having grown up with the show my whole life going to see it was amazing but heartwrenching to see the vehicles in such a poor state and now to see them all going to scrap? Again, a museum removing the past from show? Just seems a bit ridiculous. But aside from the top gear exhibit if you are a general car enthusiast the main motor museum is a fantastic place to spend a day out and the staff were lovely. Or if you aren't an enthusiast the grounds still offer plenty for all walks of life and I look forward to go again some day

Wow! I like cars, and I like museums, so this was on my bucket list of trips during our holiday but it was more of a sell to my wife and kids. However, once there, due to the huge variety of things to see and do, we all absolutely loved it! Our youngest (10) enjoyed collecting the embossed stamps and especially the character and vehicle cards (Lord Montagu card is 😍) it really got her involved, hunting down the stamps and speaking to the various staff to ask for cards. The falconry talk/performance was exceptional, with plenty of information (but not too much) followed by a mesmerising display of flying by an obviously well looked after and beautiful bird. We watched the parade of cars in the central exhibition area, which was also interesting and varied, followed by a meet and greet with the cars and drivers. The museum is beautiful with some really unique examples of motoring through the ages. My only slight gripe here is that the route through the museum doesn't seem to flow very well, sometimes having to double back on yourself to see everything. A very small complaint though, on what is otherwise a beautifully curated collection of interesting vehicles. I enjoyed seeing the Top Gear cars, which I'd watched through the years on the TV, actually in front of me. We were so busy that we didn't get to explore the ruins or the gardens but hope to return in the future. Oh! Get a guide book! Amazing value for a very comprehensive and glossy, A4 sized Bible on Beaulieu.

I visited Beaulieu first around 30 years ago and today it doesn't feel like it has changed much, which is both charming and disappointing. The house is lovely and interesting by itself and I liked the fairy walk. The car museum is very well done with lots of sections for all interests. They could make more of the central, probably most important section, on the land speed records because these automobiles and the drivers were truly remarkable. I did like the video background but saw that many people miss the importance of it. The audio guide via an app was excellent but could be part of the experience without need to use your phone and headphones and could be more extensive. The Pride section, like the Caravan club, was welcomed but it would be good to make it more open and less conspicuous, because people miss it, some perhaps on purpose. There are other people in the motor industry other than famous drivers. The gardens are wonderful. I felt there was a lot of empty space, perhaps wasted: I visited on a day where there wasn't an event so it felt very quiet and there are vast areas that are unused. The monorail I remember from many years ago and felt it was rather fast to actually enjoy fully, appreciating that it can't change much. Overall, a good day out because I wanted to remember it from several years ago but left feeling it could have more to offer.
