Entrance was free and I think we were the only ones in the museum. There are some free parking beside the museum. They have audio guides with "kids English", so daughter didn't give too much trouble. She actually enjoyed listening to the guide and find the exhibits. The museum is housed in a "fortified home", something like a castle. Somehow a bakery was operating from that house. They later discovered that the castle was "hidden" in the bakery. Museum exhibits the bits and pieces of the castle, we are impressed with the old bread oven. There's a restored dining room . Other than that, museum has few collections of local artifacts across the era. Newry being just across the border, there was quite a focus on the fight against British rule. Great and educational way to spend an hour. Mark, the staff at the museum was very helpful.

Absolutely brilliant place to visit for all age groups...went today with my children its very interesting and staff very helpful with regard to information on a radio as you walk round the different levels...So much history here from 1600 and building is well kept...

Despite being a PhD history student, and life-long NI resident, I had up until now been remiss of the city of Newry and its history and background. Upon visiting recently along with my friend and fellow student (who hails from abroad), we were honestly blown away by how much we enjoyed this museum, and we would both heartily recommend it to potential visitors of this area!

Firstly, this museum (for being focused on the history in the area) is very accessible for those who are neither familiar with the history of the area, nor the history of NI in general. My friend noted that she had no issues understanding the information, so any interested visitor would be able to get a great deal out of this museum! Secondly, the time period covered in the museum is impressive for such a relatively small space--from the protohistory of misty Ulster, to the maelstrom of civil wars, to the long twentieth century, there is plenty to see here. The temporary exhibition on McCann's bakery was a touching and fascinating window into a local business from days gone by). Thirdly, the museum itself is accessible, having a lift, as well as plenty of space for those with mobility issues. It is also well-lit, and the objects and accompanying captions are easy to read for all.

Finally, what perhaps appealed to us the most was the unfeigned kindness and warmth shown to us by the staff at the museum, who made us both feel most welcome. No expense was spared in helping us to have a great time at this museum, and the people who work here are exemplars of superb service. If you desire a compact, yet illuminating, educational experience tailored for all ages, then do consider this...

The Newry and Mourne Museum is really great! It deserves 5 stars. The audio guide is a must because it's done perfectly and tells you a lot of interesting things. The museum is in a good location and the staff is super nice with kids – they pay attention and care a lot. If you haven't been, you should definitely go! I loved it and plan to visit again. The lady at the reception was very helpful, and the displays and explanations were really good. It's a wonderful...
