The Shelbourne — Restaurant in Newry, Mourne and Down District Council

We have just left this restaurant, and I am shocked at what I have just observed. This restaurant says it is open until 5.30. We arrived around 4.15. To be greeted with brushes, hoovers, mops and bags of rubbish as the staff were cleaning around the very few customers in the building. We chose a seat but were asked to move as they wanted to hoover that space. So we were seated in a very grubby seat with someone else’s left overs all over the floor under the table. As we waited to order the staff shouted back and forth to each other, and the noise was so bad the back ground music was a complete waste of time. Our food arrived - and we watched in horror as the staff continued to clean floors, drag mop buckets and mops back and forth and one man walked past our table with two large bags of rubbish leaking some sort of content after him, and empty bottles. He proceeded to enter the kitchen with this mess The fact that rubbish, dirty water and hoovering while serving tables was deemed normal would make you wonder what the establishment thinks is unhygienic.? I went in today to get a cake for my gf birthday, got into the building almost in the same time with a lady(she was in front of me). We get in the que to get served and she started a conversation with the server for minutes cuz they didn't see themselves in a long time. I was waiting behind for a good few minutes listening to their life stories and about their kids. Needing to be back in work I actually asked if I can be served at this point to be replied by the "lovely" lady (server Donna) " you do not see I'm dealing with this customer first?" At this point she didn't even asked the lady in front of me what she wants. Someone else nice came and served me... so yea, Donna ur proffesionalis has to be looked at... Allocated a table and waited and waited and waited to put in an order. The server never approached me, or indeed any other staff member, to ask was I ready to order food etc. The server who had been dealing with other customers and could see me was not busy. My previous visit to this establishment was equally a poor experience, but I was prepared to give this establishment another chance. To say that customer service was absent would be an understatement. I got up and walked out. Any business relies on customer service to generate revenue and to encourage people to return and spend more money. I won't be returning to this business and cannot recommend it to anyone.
