Whitley Bay Beach is truly enchanting, although it can be a little tricky to work out when the tide comes in and when it goes out. When the tide is out, it reveals a fantastic expanse for walking. Walking along the long, wide sandy beach in the morning is such a refreshing experience; it's both calming and a wonderful way to appreciate nature. However, when the tide comes in, this vast beach seems to disappear in an instant, leaving you scrambling to find a dry patch of sand. It's amazing how the sea can recede so far and then rise again so dramatically - it's truly a miracle of nature.

At low tide, the view of St Mary's Lighthouse is a real treat. That is, of course, when it's not being renovated! But whether you're gazing at the lighthouse or just enjoying the rhythm of the waves, Whitley Bay Beach is a wonderful escape all year round. There's something wonderfully soothing about being by the sea,...

Absolutely loved my visit to Whitley Bay Beach! The views were stunning, especially with the lighthouse in the distance—it made for some beautiful photos. The beach itself was clean, spacious, and great for a relaxing walk. Plenty of families, dog walkers, and even surfers enjoying the day.

There are also nice cafes and restaurants nearby if you’re looking for a bite to eat or just a coffee with a view. The promenade is well-maintained and great for a leisurely stroll.

Overall, a lovely spot whether you’re looking for peace and quiet or some seaside fun. Will definitely be...

A fabulous beach, great for families. Toward St Mary’s lighthouse there’s lots of rock and pebbles and sea glass hunting to be done.

There are some rocks just off the beach which run along the waterline and these are exposed for clambering fun when the tide is out. When the tide is in just make sure you watch where you’re going so you don’t get a nasty surprise.

There are public toilets at the rendezvous cafe and on the ramp in front of Spanish city. The coop just behind Spanish city is pretty good for snacks and sandwiches, etc if you don’t want to...

We visited for The Festival of the Sea at Spanish city (once a year street food festival) but we love to come here regularly too. Our usual trip is to park at Spanish City (free parking after 6pm) and walk the whole length of the promenade up to St.Mary’s light house where we like to sit on the cliff and watch the water. It’s a lovely, varied walk, which also goes through a nature reserve. Thoroughly recommend. Also, check out their annual bonfire night fireworks, which are spectacular!
