Whitley Bay Beach is truly enchanting, although it can be a little tricky to work out when the tide comes in and when it goes out. When the tide is out, it reveals a fantastic expanse for walking. Walking along the long, wide sandy beach in the morning is such a refreshing experience; it's both calming and a wonderful way to appreciate nature. However, when the tide comes in, this vast beach seems to disappear in an instant, leaving you scrambling to find a dry patch of sand. It's amazing how the sea can recede so far and then rise again so dramatically - it's truly a miracle of nature.
At low tide, the view of St Mary's Lighthouse is a real treat. That is, of course, when it's not being renovated! The beach itself was clean, spacious, and great for a relaxing walk. Plenty of families, dog walkers, and even surfers enjoying the day.
There are also nice cafes and restaurants nearby if you’re looking for a bite to eat or just a coffee with a view. The promenade is well-maintained and great for a leisurely stroll.

There are some rocks just off the beach which run along the waterline and these are exposed for clambering fun when the tide is out. When the tide is in just make sure you watch where you’re going so you don’t get a nasty surprise.
