The Fisherman’s Quay was originally built in 1831 in the Scotch Quarter of Carrickfergus Town to help grow the fishing industry, the town’s biggest employer at the time. But unfortunately the industry did not have long, by the time of the quay’s completion, all but one of the large commercial fishing vessels had departed for booming Belfast.
Today Fisherman’s Quay has been turned over to tourism, in particular landscape and seascape photography—in addition to some light pier fishing. The historic pier is also now a scheduled historic monument, which protects it from destruction. Just recently a plan for restoration...

Needs a another bin, its permanently overflowing and litter then all over the quay and beaches ( suggest one of those solar powered automatic compactor bins, I've seen them other places ,good job!!!) and a dog bin too. And some sort of formal parking arrangement, cars parked all over the show. Saw some REALLY bad parking, ropey reversing and uncontrolled maneuvering by people who shouldn't be driving, they clearly have no control of there vehicle ...this scares me with children and dogs moving inbetween cars and Van's parked all over the place. This is a tragedy...
Read moreExcellent view point of local and surrounding areas. Beach bit rocky to the left but still good to swim and enter for water sports once you pass the seaweed. Parking is tight at tide times would be advised to park at nearby car parking across the road no immediate disability...
