The main part of the Red Squirrel trail covers Cowes to Sandown and Shanklin with a branch out to Wroxhall. We biked the main sections from Cowes to Sandown over 2 trips. The best places to park are Merstone station (free) or Little London (Sea Road) in Newport (Paid).
The track is mostly well maintained with the northern section from Newport to Cowes being the best surface.
I have only one real complaint. Please can we have more racks to safely lock up bikes while we explore off the track? The guide encourages you to do walks to one side of the track or other (eg Alverston) but there is nowhere to...

The gradient is never steep but gradual, if prolonged, and a better choice and safer for cyclists than the very busy A2030 single-track main road. Especially for family groups with little people.
