Great history of norwich. There is display boards to read about the history of cow tower. It also can be fished around this area or magnet fishing. Maybe some great fish or finds. There is also paddle boards further up near the pub. Doing Dailly hire or by the hour I believe. Nice walk past the courts or the Adam and eve pub. These routes will pass the courts and more history of Norwich. This is not an all day visit but is great for photgraph or to read about the history and the reasons of.the Tower at the time. I would recommend a visit any time of year.. as this walk will pass you along riverside and the river wensum. Leading onto the Riverside complex and shopping areas also great places if visiting norwich for a first time.. cheap hotels on Riverside or Holiday Inn near the football ground.. this is situated on carrow Road. Also a great little ground to visit if your...

The cow tower is a recognisable landmark on the southern Bank of the River Wensum in Norwich. Although the heavy gate is locked to prevent entry, the local pigeon & crow population take full advantage of the secure accommodation. It is a superb focal point for many a summer's picnic and a cooling frolic in the water as well as a being a marker point for a brisk walk along the river itself or listening to olden ghost stories on a night with the Ghost Tours. Otters, kingfisher, water voles are also nearby residents and a keen eye is needed to spot this wonderful wildlife of the city. The only downside is the area being used frequently by drug takers and drink dependant folk at any time of the day. This spoils the calming effect and beauty of this precious oasis of greenery within Norwich. Otherwise, it is worth a visit either by foot, bicycle or the...

Stunning old cow tower. The locals love it. Tourists flock to.it! We decided on a walk along from Norwich city ,taking park and ride in. To see Cow tower as our neighbour had never been. Still a beauty. Although sadly we couldn't get in anymore. As locked gates by the council stopped us. We had been inside many times years ago and also on a Halloween tour once too! Very scary.indeed! But I would recommend!! There was a little americanised boy there and we chatted about the beautiful old building too. The grounds around the tower are looking tired sadly. And the trees especially the willow trees are extremely overgrown. Pplease please Norwich council and English Heritage pplease take more care around this lovely old building. It's too beautiful to just let it all rot. Or a dangerous...

"what a unique little piece of history! This medieval tower is such a hidden gem tucked away by the river. The views from the top are lovely - you can see the river and surrounding areas beautifully. It's fascinating to think about all the history this old tower has witnessed over the centuries. The walk along the river to reach it is quite pleasant too. Perfect spot for a quiet moment away from the busy city center. Great little historical site that doesn't take long to explore but definitely worth the visit if you're interested in Norwich's medieval heritage!

A purpose-built artillery blockhouse. Build around late 1300s to command a strategic point in Norwich city defence against the French and indigenous English rebels. Part of a local heritage. It’s located along the river. Used to house guns and weapons to defend the city. Now it looks like a deserted tower with a gate to prevent entry into the tower but you can see from a certain angle the inside. A little eerie I think. Why is it called cow tower? Probably derived the name from the surrounding meadow Cowholme.
