It was Saturday morning and neither of us wanted to cook, we both did the old side eye thing until eventually I gave in and said "We will go out for Breakfast", We arrived at 11:30 and luckily I had booked a table as it was busy. (Fail to plan and you plan to fail kids!) On arrival at the bar, a very nice lady asked us if we wanted to eat indoor or out? It was sunny so we opted for out. Good choice. Now we have been married for 29 years (how she has put up with me for this length of time is a bloody mystery, " its like the turns of seasons and the tides of the sea") and we both have smartphones, but we both sat their and actually did that weird speaking to each other thing, we were having such a great time, that we ignored our phones, the buzzing on our wrists of the smart watches. and just enjoyed the ambience and atmosphere. Its that kind of a place. So time to order, we went for our traditional breakfasts, she had a Vegan and me being a "geezer" had the full english, she had smelly tea nad I had proper tea (Earl Grey and English Breakfast), sadly this only means a mug of tea, not a pot, if anyone from the Red Lion reads this, give us pots of tea, its our right. Tea arrived quickly, food soon after and it was delicious, we enjoyed watching people paddle boarding down the river and the English sunshine. After stuffing ourselves and ordering another mug of tea each (I refer you to my earlier comment), she popped to the loo and I paid the bill. (So I ended up losing in the end :) ) I asked "Is service included" and the reaction suggested that many people dont tip, come on people, if you get good service, at least leave a couple of quid, none of us wants to see American style tipping, but its nice to show appreciation. We then went for a walk along the river which is glorious. Now we had such a good time we had ignored numerous messages from our kids, who had both decided that the "radio silence" could only mean we had both died. I am sure i could sense their disappointment when they discover we were alive and only their dream of inheritance had died. So would I recommend the Red Lion? Hell yeah, but book first and remember the leave a tip for good service.

Have now been here a couple of times; previously in 2021 I like the Eton mess cheesecake, as the seeds on that are a great touch. Attentive but not pushy service. Clean toilets. Nice outside space all done up. New parking area v nice looking too. Top tip from then was (and would still be) to book by phone, not internet, and request a "proper" table, as the one time we booked online, we were offered a high table on bar stools with no back (declined) or a low table on cafe chairs - which was fine but uncomfortable by the end, and only marginally more comfortable than a primary school parents evening. I most recently visited April 2022, and the good things about this place from last year are still true now - good outside, good service, good access with the parking. Nice decor inside, and a good range of alcohol free beers for this visit, including an 0% Erdinger (but it's ÂŁ4.20!) My constructive criticism/ feedback would be to the to chef/ menu designer. There isn't much at all on this menu for somebody trying to eat healthier, and nothing for a light lunch. The menu is really missing a salad bowl, particularly as we head into sunnier weather. I ordered the Veggie Grazing Board and the seasonal greens to try to achieve a "build your own salad" but it wasn't the most successful. My mother-in-law lives round the corner and would come in at lunch times if they did jacket potatoes. I do feel they are missing a trick by not having lighter options.

The new Red Lion is lovely, fab decor, great coffee and friendly and attentive staff. We sat outside by the river, looking across to the historic Lollards Pit overlooked by the site of the Ketts Rebellion camp, such history to enjoy with a coffee. We had brunch today, it was fab! Smashed Avocado on sourdough with bacon and a poached egg was superb, perfect egg, quality bacon, my lady had the American style pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, they were so light and the bacon, again was great. Recommended Ps. If you think its too cold to sit outside on a may evening to eat, it would be without the fab heaters

Having driven here for an evening drink 5th July to enjoy the last of the evening sun I ordered at the bar. It was quite busy so it took a little while to be served. While ordering a fight broke out behind me with a group of girls and Ruby party over a £20 that has been dropped By one of the Rugby party and one of the girls picked it up and put It in her purse. The person serving me left the bar after leaving the drinks on the bar but unpaid, understandably I wanted to get out of the bar while all this went on but hadn’t paid.after 10 minutes I managed to pay for the round with someone else behind the bar. These things happen I appreciate and are not anyone’s fault, but no acknowledgement of my patience, thank you for not walking away without paying.

Imagine my surprise when 10 days later I get a parking fine of ÂŁ100.

I called to discuss the pine and was told it was my fault I should have seen the signs in the pub car park expecting me to register on a computer terminal in the bar. This is the same bar where a fight was going on. I had seen the signs for the pub car park. I had not noticed any signs about having to register my registration on any computer. I said I hadn’t been asked if I had parked and registered. I was told no the don’t do that. It my responsibility to read the signs and do what it says. So basically it’s a private car park for the pub run by a parking company that you can only register if you go in the pub. Given I had been in the pub, had paid by card and can prove I had drunk there wasn’t good enough. I was told no other customers have had a fine so it was my problem. I asked if that was true that no one who had drunk on the pub had ever had a fine. She said oh shut up and hung up the phone.

Not the best customer experience I have had.

If you like this sort of attitude from a pub, they have a reasonable selection of beers, ciders and. Outside tables,...

Me and my partner had are eveing meal here today and even tho at the start service was ok and got spoken too ok, we sit down on a table to see what we liked for are meal, we both order the red lion burger and even tho partner requested blue cheese on his they accomadated that, but as we sat to talk i found my kronie was flat and my partner was still bubbly so i asked for another one without saying as just wanted my drink but when i got are food the bar tender said he didnt charged me for the kronie as he saw, which i found very nice, but when i saw my bacon over done and salad was sharpe and onions rings was tad greasey i found bit off putting when bar guy come over i menchun if things ok i did say about the burger but i was happy to carry on, but i went to toilet and saw it had not flush so i used urinenals went to wash my hands but hot tap i could not turn it and found it bit grubby. Altho i came out sat with my partner to try enjoy a lady come over to say did we enjoy are meals as i explain the above she excepted are feed back but when she left i felt bit uncomfortable with bar guy who was talking to what look like another worker in a wispy way infront of us knowing i made a comment even tho they be talking about summit it didnt make us feel welcome but i went to settle up and guy said sorry that we didnt have a good time he fail to listern to my comments even tho the lady spoke to know off our issues, it would of been nice he took time to pay attention and also to say goodbye as we left. I given 2 stars but i would give more if our departure was a pleasent one, after paying ÂŁ33 pounds even with drink taken off, knowing i had eating 70% of the meal i wasnt gonna ask for my meal back but im in two minds to come back ! Partner found out there rating was 2 from...
