Read moreVery few magical places are more magical than this one . I have learnt what a great thing seclusion is . I have learnt that whilst company can be helpful at times solitude and the truth bring peace and truth and peace bring happiness . This Cathedral is very special place that kind of makes me believe in heaven . I can also see why the gifted monk's chose the locations they did for their worship . When I was young I was desperate for friendship company and acceptance not realising I already had it all I had to be was good alas I was not. I regret my youthful behaviour and my weakness and stupidity in believing I was having fun . I regret believing I was special . Here at rest you will find Gerald of Wales , Rhys ap Gruffydd and Edmund Tudor amongst others . You will also notice that these people also comprehended a world of peace that is easy to achieve and quite cheap . It seems to me that duty , care for others and thanking God for their lives is what these Monks sought . I hope they achieved it . I believe this place has seen much violence through the years I also believe that peace and love have won in the end . I am so grateful to have lit a candle for my mother here and thank the people of Wales for letting me . There is lots of history to be learnt here and I believe peace can be found . King Alfred sought help here and found it , I am a sinner but pray for my mother and Tilley please help them both...
Read moreThe best bits about places like this aren't the magnificence of the buildings or their locations (both are of course) but the other worldly they transport you to. For example, if you approach the cathedral from the northeast corner you enter the grounds down a beautiful cobbled path that's clearly as ancient as the cathedral itself. You can almost feel the ghosts of the parishioners of time-past walking down with you. Or the library (that lots of people walk past or baulk at entering because of the challenge of ascending the spiral staircase) that a place like York Minster or St Paul's would charge entry for but here you enter freely as well as get to peer at ancient biblical translations and listen to the wisdom of the attendant staff. Like all financially challenged church buildings in the UK they now ask for donations and though they are still voluntary (York Minster started charging in 2003 - the significant work on this historic monument continues unabated) I can see this changing easily for such a significant structure quite soon. It's an amazing site though - if you're in South Wales you must visit - only a fool wouldn't - religious or not, thongs like this just aren't...
