Where can you go that's great within half an hour of Halifax for a good nice walk with a lake plenty of wildlife and a couple of pubs the beach is on site and the Wine press is near the car park. There's a couple of cafes on site two, The Pavilion cafe with outside tables it's on your walk around we did well to pass it this time as we always have a coffee here but today we were to have a Moretti Birra at the wine press I think next time we'll have lunch or dinner. There's a cafe at the carpark visitor centre advertising breakfast sounds good to me. There were loads and loads of birds through many variety with the green head Cuyaga duck catching my eye and a special moment of seeing a great crested grebe dive and the wait I remember from being a little bit younger for it to eventually pop up. As the lake is a fair size with lots of visitors there were a fair few bits of rubbish that had ended up at the side of the lake could do with a few well trained volunteers as it might not be always easy to pick this rubbish from the edges. I'm looking forward to more visits maybe dawn photographs...
Read moreNice walk, nice views, nice little cafes. Been coming here for 48 years. Three large pay & display car parks, the main waterfront is little cafes, and shops. At either end is a large pub, one is usually full of very well behaved bikers, with a very upmarket menu, the other end is a big chain pub with excellent carvery at reasonable prices. A steady walk around the lake takes us about 40 mins but half way round is a little waterside cafe so you can add 20 mins for a coffee. Then a kiddies playground about 2/3 of the way round with ice cream van - usually, then steady walk round to the starting point. Sail boats and pedalos for hire if you fancy it. There are two small sandy beach areas for the kids and lots of other pebble beaches down to the water, though when it's busy you have to fight for space against all the dogs that are allowed to roam along the waters edge by that class of people that think they have a right to let their dogs run free when it's crowded with people. You know the ones I mean. Anyway that's the only negative of a otherwise superb...
Read moreParking is a nightmare the walk is good flat and easy good for all fitness levels two good little cafes situated along the way and toilets also. Not the best though like something from a smack den. Few good views along the walk and can tail off over the Pennines bridal ways from here. Few good places to stop and eat around the lake front though if you are after more than just a brew and a packet of crips or a average butty from the cafes. Need to pay for parking on both sites the visitors centre has more spaces and after 6pm it’s free weekend and morning can be busy. I’d you park at the beech can take ticket in to redeem parking if you eat it or get a pint in there. Overall nice enough just rather boring once you have been round it several times like...
