My wife and I visited today and we were both very impressed. The museum occupies several rooms of the former courthouse and everything's clean and bright.
The focus of the museum is the history of Thame which is illustrated by exhibits that have been found or recovered in the town or surrounding area. The displays include fossils, fittings from public buildings and farm implements as well as many lovely old photographs. There are displays of artefacts ranging from the Neolithic period to the 1970s. These include various items from the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, the Roman occupation, the Saxon and medieval periods as well as both World Wars. All the displays are accompanied by clear labels and information panels.
We are a middle-aged couple who love history and museums so our visit was enjoyable and interesting. However, I don't think young children will enjoy the visit as much but the museum is great for older children and adults who are interested in the past, and Thame in particular. Thame Museum is quite compact and it only took us a comfortable two and a half hours to see everything in the few rooms. The volunteer staff were friendly and there is a small gift shop as well as a toilet which was welcome.
