I've been for a drink several times to the Rising Sun, but this was the first time actually dining in. I'm also aware their takeaways are very popular due to their fantastic dishes. The dining area is unfortunately limited to three tables which does make it reliable chance to get a free table. They do offer food in the bar area but personally I like to sit at a proper table. Therefore, I HIGHLY recommend booking at table. The menu, is very varied with each page having a dedicated type of dish, beef, chicken, duck, seafood, vegan etc etc. The food came quickly and was to a high standard. I can see why their takeaway is so popular, as I'd love to work through their menu, dish by dish. My friend and I had a variety of cocktails and mocktails which were great. They have a very varied range of drinks to fullfill everyone desires. You may at this point be thinking, why isn't this a 5 star review. The unfortunate reality of the building, is that they are limited by their dining space. This severly limits capasity and potentially make it (if busy) very loud.

Wonderful service, tasty food, a hidden gem for food in the middle of Thame! Update March 2023 A wonderful find in sleepy Thame! Beatifically cooked and presented Thai delicacies served promptly in a beautiful environment. You enter through the busy country pub, will warning smells of wood smoke and delicious food, friendly greeting at the bar, then transform through to the restaurant, like a tardis, tucked away at the back of the put. We were undecided what to choose from as didn’t want to have something they wasn’t to our taste. We decided eventually to choose from the set menu, with some small tweaks, which suited our needs impeccably. 2 glasses of Prosecco, 2 pints of Estrada and half a Guinness (it was St Patrick’s day!) came to £88. Not cheap but reasonable.

This Thai restaurant has done a great job of keeping the pub aspect to the place. Many people drink here without eating. Brian's 'dead pan' humour makes the Tuesday quiz entertaining, and there is live music (cover artists) every other Saturday night. I mark The Rising Sun down to 3 stars because their ales are not kept correctly and can be unacceptable at times. Also, the food is far too expensive considering it tastes like the sauces/flavourings are delivered and mass produced. My main issue is, weekends here are rather youthful and boisterous.

Oh dear. The food was poor quality, the hygiene is obviously poor quality and the customer service was poor quality. This has been a favourite restaurant of ours for some time and we've had regular meals and takeaways. However, we wont be back. We usually have the lunch set menu but thought we'd order from the main menu today. Todays meal started with spicy chicken wings which tasted as if they had been cooked several days ago and reheated. The edges of the wings were hard under the sauce. It tasted like the leftover chicken kept in the fridge for a few days that you might eat at home - but not what you want to pay for in a restaurant. My husbands duck spring rolls looked freshly cooked and tasted nice. Our main meal was curry but instead of the usual melt in the mouth chicken, it was rubbery and chewy. At times it was difficult to swallow as it couldn't be chewed into small enough pieces. Then to top it all I ended up unwrapping a black hair from my teeth which came in the food (my husband is blond and I'm grey so it wasn't ours). A brief apology was given and an offer of more food, but we'd almost finished by this time so said no. When our plates were removed we were asked if everything was ok. I said 'no'. The waiter just took the plates and left with no comment. Then he got surly when we asked for the bill - on which there was no reduction or discount - and we paid and left. What had been a lunch we'd really been looking forward to was a huge...

Oh dear! Our visit was a dissapointment- perhaps even a shambles. My partner and myself went, along with 8 other colleagues, on a Saturday evening. I had previously informed the pub (as requested)of our requirements (starters and main courses). The pub was very busy- good- It's great to see a pub heaving, but nobody seemed aware of our order. Not one of our party had a starter- 2 bowls of crackers (at £4.50 a pop) were dumped in front of us all to share, whether we had ordered them or not, even though I had informed them previously we wanted 2 particular starter dishes. We did at least receive our main dishes. Ours were fine. My partner would have died for a coffee, but nobody offered her one- if they did we missed it. A 10% service charge is imposed- and it's mandatory. We will not be returning for this reason alone. The service was pretty poor- I rated it 4/10. I admit it was very busy and the staff were rushed off their feet. Perhaps going on a Saturday evening was a mistake- the pub seemed to assume WE were doing them a favour by giving them our time and money. Paying was a shambles too. I wish the Rising Sun all the best, but I'll be giving it a very wide berth...
