Holyrood Church dates from 1320. This Anglican Church took a direct hit during the Blitz in 1940 but the clock tower remained standing. The ruins of the church were restored in 1957 and dedicated as a memorial to Merchant Navy seafarers. Worth a look if you're in the vicinity.

I’m quietly taken aback by the long history and significance of this church. For the past and present I stood in silence and paid my respects. I would like to have seen more than just a plaque to commemorate the recent Falklands anniversary. Perhaps a statue of some sort.

Le rovine di Holyrood church si trovano non lontano dal Bargate. La chiesa fu costruita nel 1320, faceva parte delle cinque chiese originarie della città all'interno delle mura ed ha avuto per diversi secoli un ruolo importante nella vita di Southampton. Fu bombardata e distrutta durante la seconda guerra mondiale ma le sue rovine rimangono a testimonianza dell'era passata. Ora è un memoriale dedicato ai marinai della Marina Mercantile e vi sono altre diverse placche commemorative, per esempio a ricordo dei membri dell'equipaggio del Titanic, dei caduti delle Falklands e altre. È molto suggestiva e vale la pena visitarla.

Церковь Святой Руд была возведена на этом месте в 1320 году и была сильно повержена вражеской атаке 3 ноября 1940 года. Сейчас церковь известна как церковь моряков. А имена моряков, погибших во время воздушного налета, можно найти на стене снаружи. На стене так же есть мемориальная табличка капитану пассажирских и грузовых пароходов Чарльзу Алжернон Фрайатт, которая была установлена на столетие со дня его смерти. Огромный 13-тонный якорь от знаменитого лайнера Саутгемптона QE2 был установлен на пешеходной дорожке перед церковью Святой Руд.

Very pretty church there are nice plaques discussing historical facts. I love how you can just walk in quite nice when exploring the city

Beautiful ruins of a church that you can just stroll into. Definitely worth taking a look. Inside are memorials to the Merchant Navy.
