Woodmill Outdoor Centre — Attraction in Southampton

Avoid kayaking. Awful experience. Dangerous and neglegent staff. Poorly run, lack of expertise from staff around keeping their clients safe. They sent us out on the river and recommended us to go upstream due to the sewage downstream. However this advice was really unsafe as the river was flooded meaning the currents were stronger than usual. There was no prior warning or safety advice regarding this. The staff had not assessed the safety of the river or were being blatantly neglegent. Clearly they shouldn't be responsible for people using their crafts as they can't be trusted to keep their clients safe. As a resutof this neglegence, we not only didn't manage to make it more than about 5 meters up the river but also it resulted in a boat colliding with unkept dangerous branches overhanging the river and leading to a boat capsizing. Visited Woodmill Outdoor Activities Centre on a monday to hire out two of their Kayaks for 1 hour. I rang up earlier to enquire about the kayaks what they recommend I should bring - found the staff very helpful and friendly. Upon arriving I was told the procedure, price and shown the safety video. Again the staff were lovely and the prices were fair for everything you get. The facilities there are great with a nice waiting area, changing rooms, toilets, lockers and vending machines for snacks. The Kayak route I chose was to the White Swan pub which filled the hour time slot nicely. I recommend this place and the kayak rental if you are looking for a relaxing paddle and if you rent it for more than an hour, you can stop off at the pub for some food...

Amazing Paddle With Pops session this afternoon!! Thank you ☺️ We had Henry as our guide and he was awesome. Great instructions. Knew just when to step in and when to hold back and give you time to figure stuff out. I felt very safe. My dad and I had a great time and felt a sense of massive achievement when we got under the bridge! (If you know, you know!). My daughter paddled with her Dad too and thoroughly enjoyed it. My mum wasn't keen on arrival and decided not to get in the canoe, but walk along the river bank instead, watching, laughing, and taking photos of us. A great experience. I'm glad we did it. Not for the faint of heart but great for the adventurous amongst you. Would recommend Woodmill Activity Centre...
