Wonderful Golf Course. Experience marred by some hostile, inefficient and officious staff.I booked in the spring on behalf of a group of friends from a club in West Dorset. The staff member quoted a price of £42.50 per person. I was obliged to pay a hefty deposit. Some while before the due date I was contacted by Heather who arranged for sandwiches and a chips lunch for us, before playing. We arrived and were greeted by a most unfriendly little man, who demanded the full green fee payment of £105 per person. I reminded him of this arrangement and was told that effectively I was lying about the price that I had been quoted. This became an embarrassing dispute in a busy foyer. Heather came along and confirmed the lunch order and tried to calm a hostile atmosphere. I returned to my car and showed her my original notes made after my arrangements made with Sarah. Heather sought clarity and eventually she came back from seeking higher authority. She would not budge from a final figure of £45 per person. She stated that I had mistakenly been quoted the previous winter's green fees. Mysteriously there was no trace of Sarah to support my account. Heather seemed the only friendly face amongst the staff This was reluctantly accepted by our group. It left a nasty taste. We went into the bar to have coffee. An officious young man, rudely told one member to remove his hat and took our order in a very unfriendly manner. Immediate payment was demanaded and a little later our sandwiches and chips were served. Immediate payment again was demanded and before finishing we felt that we were unwelcome and were to be hurried out. Sarah also had advised us that I was to arrange our nearest the pin and longest drive competition with the duty pro. This was denied by the duty pro and I would have to reattend the reception for arrangements to be made. Our better players very much enjoyed the course with it's stunning views and tricky holes. We have decided in future years, during our annual trip to the west country courses, to avoid this club like the plague. We did not have an enjoyable experience and felt grudgingly tolerated, rather...
Read moreWe played in August, 7 days after the greens had been tinned. We were not told the greens were not long worked on, as a result 6-10 foot putts were bumpy and guess work. The view is absolutely stunning 360. The Clubhouse was stunning especially the roof terrace, staff really friendly. £160 a round, in my opinion not worth it. It's a James braid course, there's the braid hills in Edinburgh at about £20 a round. This course was better maintained but not too much. had some nice holes and some nothing holes. We were told it's a 'walking course', well for a 74 year old and a brother that needs a hip replacement, it wasn't an enjoyable walk. All in all, it's a hike and not in the category of other top uk...
Read moreCalled to book a tee time this week whilst on holiday to try out a course many had suggested to play. There were quite a few tee times available once I enquired, I recently had an hip operation and was told I couldn’t have a buggy without a medical letter. I appreciate the rules but maybe look into bending them to help certain circumstance like this, it’s the beauty of Golf and we all try to help one another out. That’s £115 of business thrown away for what? A lack of a piece of paper that tells you I had an operation? It’s also money I didn’t want to spend, then get half way round and not be able to carry on.
I have played all over the world and never been...
