We visited Awesome Walls today, and while it’s tucked a little out of the way, it proved to be well worth the trip.
The standout feature of our visit was undoubtedly the manager a truly incredible individual who made the experience unforgettable. As someone familiar with climbing, I was introducing my family to the sport, including a 13 year old who can be a tough crowd. However, the manager welcomed us warmly, engaged with the youngest member of our group, and encouraged him to give climbing a try. Her enthusiasm and support made such an impact that they’re already eager to return even without me prompting them!
Beyond the excellent service, the atmosphere of the gym was fantastic. The people there were friendly and helpful while still allowing you to go at your own pace, creating a relaxed yet encouraging environment.
The gym itself caters to a wide range of skill levels, making it a great place for both beginners and experienced climbers. I particularly appreciated how the colour matched holds correspond to different grades, making it easy to find the right level and progress naturally.
Another major highlight was the fantastic value for money. Signing up as a life member not only provided great benefits but also allowed me to bring someone along for free. This is a brilliant incentive to introduce newcomers to climbing, reducing the cost barrier and making it more accessible for those who might not otherwise give it a try.
Overall, Awesome Walls delivers an exceptional experience from the welcoming staff to the well-structured routes and excellent membership benefits. Highly recommended for climbers...
Read moreExcellent climbing gym with plenty of bouldering routes and equipment. Whether you want to climb walls, work on your strength, cardio, or even balance, it's the perfect place to go.
The walls are visually appealing and matting is kept in top condition, with all surfaces being clean (apart from the mountains of chalk of course!).
In terms of friendliness, the staff have to be the some of the nicest people I've met, whilst also being super helpful when it comes to anything climbing-related, or even if you just want to chat.
Coffee, tea, and cold drinks are all available at fair prices, and admission fees may be slightly costly for individual visits, but the monthly membership is abolsutely worth it if you're a frequent visitor. At £40 per month, it may seem expensive, but even if you climb twice per week, it's already much more cost-efficient.
Shoes and chalk are all available for rent, and they offer a large selection of shoes, chalk bags, and other climbing equipment you may wish to purchase.
The establishment is very beginner-friendly, and having only been climbing for a month I highly recommend to anyone who may wish to pick it up as a hobby.
Kudos to all staff for providing such an amazing place to climb and...
Read moreThe staff are friendly and so are the people that go there. The routes are re-set at least once a month and are graded correctly most of the time and offer a challenge for all types of climbers. If you're just starting out or an experienced climber, there will be routes here ready to challenge you.
The refreshments and food are ok and there is a place to relax once you're tired. The shoes that you can rent aren't as grippy as new climbing shoes but they're better than going in trainers.
There are overhangs, slab walls, vertical walls and a traverse wall. Upstairs you will find the "cave". The cave is a big room that has routes up the walls and across the roof. Next to the cave you will also find another traverse wall and a small place where you can practice and train your grip strength. There are also lockers, toilets and changing facilities which are all clean.
There is also a big free parking area outside the...
