We love Cosmeston and go on average once a fortnight, sometimes more often. It has toilets and a cafe at the car park area, and a ranger / information office. The cafe offers a selection of hot and cold foods and drinks, and is good value generally. To the right of the ranger / information centre you'll find some benches and beautiful views of the lake and not to mention, many swans, ducks, moorhens and of course, sea gulls! Instead of bringing bread for the birds, why not bring some peas, corn and oats instead? Much better for the animals' stomachs than bread. :-) There's several walks around the country park you can take. There's two lakes that you can walk around. The main lake offers a flat route around it which is pushchair and wheelchair friendly. At the side of the park is a lovely park with mostly wooden play equipment including swings, slide, pirate ship, a new rope swing you stand on, seesaw and a wooden climbing frame with firefighter pole. There's a few picnic benches in the park. Behind the park is a lovely woodland which is a great adventure for young ones. You'll see many squirrels darting around the park and woodland too. There are barbeques all around the park that you can hire. From memory I think it's £25 to hire the barbeques. There is a lovely area to the left to the left of cafe (as you look at the café) that has been recently developed to include a new pond, a beautiful wood carving of lots of animals, new benches, new trees planted and a covered shelter area with seating, perfect for a rest on a nature walk, for shade or for an education group to use. Beyond this newly developed area is the medieval village. We did a tour as an education group and really enjoyed it. The guides are very knowledgeable and patient with young children. You can visit for free before 12 (I believe) but you have to book and pay for the guided tours. You could spend an hour at Cosmeston lake country park or you could spend a whole day. It's such a beautiful play to visit and I'd recommend it...

This park is very large to wall around and is clearly mapped out so you can see where you want to go. I didn't have time to walk around all of it as you need a good full day to do that and appreciate it. All the land is clearly very well maintained and all paths were very neat and flat. The paths were great for pushchair and for my son to use his scooter. You can feed the birds and there is so many different types of wildlife and insects. We were able to see some baby birds which was lovely. I liked how the park had like different types of areas like the dragonfly pond and a reeds type pond where there was hundreds of tadpoles and different areas to explore. The cafe was reasonably price and so was the parking. Full day was £5 and up to four hours was £4 so it made sense for peace of mind to pay the £5 so you don't have to worry about time and you need plenty of time to appreciate the park. There was also a large playground for all age groups. My 4 year old was all over it. He loved it and although it was quite busy, he was still able to enjoy it without other kids getting in the way of his imaginary playing. The village was beautiful created and was worth having a look. I think they are still extending it but it was nice to look at and enjoy. Restrooms were located at the village and at the entrance of the park. There could have been some by the park as there is a fair distance to run if your child...

A simply wonderful and magical place, the lakes are the remains of the Dragon Cement Works ....the smaller lake is a nature reserve whilst the main lake is reserved for sailing, other sports etc....plenty of wildlife from waterfowl, finches and everything else in the feathered variety...the boardwalk across the marsh area attracts butterflies, dragonflies, frogs toads n newts....some too much to list here. Oh some very friendly Grey Squirrels who sometimes take food from your hand if its very quiet.... There's a visitor centre, cafe, eat in or take out ... public loos including disabled are there too. Theres outdoor seating overlooking the main lake, the deepest of the two lakes which were the quarries for the limestone ti make the cement...a little steam powered railway used to transport the stone across the main road to the works. The Schooner Inn is located in the works offices ...there are many attractions including a Medieval Village plus so much more... One of the best things is its only £1 to park whilst the rest is free...one of the best attractions near Cardiff I can thoroughly recommend Cosmeston Country Park.. Awesome...nowt else to say...😀👍 I would suggest check out their FB page or the website for more...
