Cosmeston Medieval Village, sited within the boundaries of Cosmeston Lakes Country Park, is one of the Vale of Glamorgan's leading tourist attractions. The Village is set in the year 1350, a turbulent period in the history of the Welsh and English. The remains of the community were discovered and excavated during the 1980's by a team of archaeologists, and the local authority decided that this was a unique opportunity to bring to life part of the history of Wales. A programme of reconstruction allows visitors to see excavated buildings and gardens recreated, while livestock of the middle ages are cared for by "villagers" in authentic costume. There is an opportunity to experience medieval life by taking a tour of the village with a costumed guide or you can take a self guided tour using the portable audio system.

What an absolutely wonderful adventure! It's like going back in time with a guide who makes the whole thing come alive. You have the sights, smells and sounds of the past as the guide, playing the role of a villager, takes you around the medieval village explaining what everything is, what it meant and how it shaped not only life 600 years ago but today as well. You'll see the connection between our comfortable lives today and the lives our ancestors lived, ancestors who braved the elements, the battles and The Plague. Seriously excellent, lots of fun, impressively informative (my wife, 6yr old daughter and I had all our questions answered with patient clarity) and worth every single penny. Ps.if you have kids who like Minecraft, they'll likely see a connection between that game and this medieval world.

The medieval village is set in the year 1350. It was a fascinating time in history as the village had been given a new boost of life by the de Caversham family. Cosmeston Medieval Village is a living history medieval village near Lavernock in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. Based upon remains discovered during a 1980s archaeological dig in the grounds of Cosmeston Lakes Country Park, it is a re-creation of 14th century peasant life in Wales in the Late Middle Ages. Cosmeston includes a Reeve's house, a pub, medieval gardens, and a swineherd's cottage complete with pigpen. The tithe barn is the largest building within the village, and includes a display of medieval weaponry and chain mail.

It’s a lovely place to walk. I was amazed at the clear waters of the lake. You could see the fish swimming around. There were so many. The birds were on the surface and it was a cool sight. We spotted a couple of water voles. I’ve never seen any before. Don’t confuse them with rats. They look very cute. The children’s play area was good apart from the young child area. It looks cute and fun, but it’s honestly a death trap. It’s steep and has lots of areas where a little one could fall. It really needs to be flattened out quite a lot. Every person I spoke to in that area had trouble with it.
