Me and my wife ware served clotted cream with our (dry and stale) scones at the cafe at Cosmeston Lakes (REFRESH) and when we called the managers attention to this, the manager told us that we shouldn’t pay attention and o these dates because it’s the company’s policy to freeze the clotted cream and they can “last indefinitely” because they are frozen. When I told her that that was NOT at all in accordance with the law or food hygiene good practices I was told that they display a 5* rating and that is what was important and that they are a nacional company and that’s what their policy was in regards to the cream, my wife was sick after one bite and honestly I am concerned that they seem to think this is a normal procedure and there’s nothing wrong with this. The so called manager had no clue on how to deal with a legitimate complaint and gave all kinds of of excuses and was clearly untrained, unaware and unconnected to the slightest notion of customer care, good hygiene practices and all around professionalism, the remaining staff members ware ready to die out of misery and lack of energy or will to live, what a dump, old, stale food just slapped onto a dirty plate, coffees that more resemble my car’s used engine oil and not a smile for miles… please general public steer clear from this pit of despair and save yourselves the money and the...

Absolutely DISGUSTING. Walking into Refresh Cafe was like stepping into a sewer — the whole place stank of damp, old nappies, and misery. The tables were soaking wet and filthy, and the chairs looked like they’d collapse if you breathed on them. Despite this, they had the audacity to charge premium prices for drinks that were dragged out of a broken fridge, lukewarm and looking like they’d been there since last Christmas. The coffee was straight-up nasty — greasy, and served in a cup that clearly hadn’t seen a sponge in weeks.
The chips? Cooked in what I can only assume was century-old oil. You could taste the filth. And the burger? Vile. Both me and my nan nearly gagged. Flies were everywhere — even having a pool party in the dog’s water bowl. The staff? Looked like they’d been slapped with a wet fish before their shift. Not a smile in sight, just a collective aura of misery and resentment.
Dirty. Smelly. Overpriced. If I could give zero stars, I would. Avoid this dump...
Read moreWe go to codmeston cafe regularly and have always been warmly welcomed even though I have a muzzled. Sometimes reactive to strangers dog. I recently read a review on here that said dogs were unwelcome when muddy and that the staff were rude, so I was reluctant to take my wet, muddy girl in - but it was raining hard, so I went for it. The second we walked through the door, my dog ran over to the manager and was greeted with such a huge welcome that (although she’s usually reactive with strangers) she was totally won over. The lady (who I later found out was the manager called Emma if my memory serves me correctly) was fussing her, tickling her tummy. Laughing and simply gave us the warmest welcome we could ever hope for. My girl had sausages and I had a toasted tea coke and the experience was lovely. I absolutely have to dispute any review which speaks negatively of dogs in the cafe. My experience couldn’t have been...
