The park is lovely and clean BUT many dogs and none on leads. You can see rottweilers freely running and the owners dont care. My children are frighten from dogs as their cousin was bitten why one and the people dont care when they see kids screaming scared and their dog running and barking around. They just said ‘ ohhh this dog will never hurt them…’; well, your dog is already hurting them psychologically. Dogs can run freely, NOT CHILDREN! at the entrance there is a warning for all dog owners to keep dogs on leads but 1% of people does. Until the day this park will be on the news and then dogs will not be allowed…as well dogs going into the playground WHERE DOGS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE, and owners dont even notice because they r busy with their phones. Police should be present from time...
Read moreBackhouse Park has the potential to be fantastic. It is spoiled by some ( not all) irresponsible dog owners who think it s okay to let their dogs run wherever they want off their leads. The children's play area is quite good, and gated ( free from dogs ). Opposite the play area is a community of "fairy houses" which look brilliant. Also next to the play area, is a wild flower meadow which looks fantastic and should be a blueprint for all Sunderland parks. Finally, the birds in the park are excellent. I've seen Goldcrests, Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Nuthatchers, Treecreepers, and all the other usual suspects. There is also a community of about 30 Ring Necked Parakeets now established in the park. I am not a dog hater, I actually really like dogs, but, please keep them...
Read moreBlessed to live so near to this wonderful woodland park. The peacefulness, good standard footpaths ( including man-made & paws- made ! ) make it an ideal escape for everyone. Very popular with dog walkers, wheelchair, pram friendly ( although there are some inclines) children's play area, plenty comfortable seating & bins. Beautiful mature trees & football pitch. Wild blackberries in abundance. Clean & lovely shallow burn gently flowing through & water can be heard along the routes. A real gem of a public space for all to enjoy. Still looking for hedgehogs at dusk, I understood they were being introduced into the park last year? Well maintained by the Park Rangers as litter is always the...
