This place is a hidden gem! I've lived locally for 40 years and only found out about it recently. The staff/volunteers are very friendly and knowledgeable. There is a nice variety of items in the exhibit. The museum is located in an old Martello fort. If you're comfortable with tight and twisty steps, you can venture onto the roof to see views of Point Clear, Mersea and Brightlingsea. There is a small gift shop just inside the entrance. The opening times are short, so check before travelling.

An absolute gem of a museum. I felt like I had stepped back in time. to be able to view all these artefacts and local stories in the atmosphere of a martello tower. 3 volunteers, dressed in uniform, welcomed us in for free. This amazing little museum is financed only through donation. Well worth the trip.

Situated in a historic Martello tower, this is a free to enter museum, though donations are greatfully accepted Loads of exhibits, many with a local connection. Staffed by very enthusiastic & knowledgeable volunteers. Dog & child friendly. Kids allowed to have a go on some weapons & exhibits.

The East Essex Aviation Museum is run by enthusiastic volunteers and is located in the Martello Tower at Point Clear. There is a lot to see; mainly fragments of WW2 aircraft dug out of the ground from crash sites around East Anglia, and recovered from the sea shore. If you're interested in aircraft, and the stories of the men who flew and died in them, this museum is worth a visit. If you wanted to see pristine restored aircraft, a visit would be...
