The Yaxhtsmans Arms is a really nice pub and restaurant right across from the water front in Brightlingsea.
As the place used to be mostly a pub, it has a very pub lunch vibe, but the food and service do it so much more justice. Quite a small space for the sitting in so they can pack a few more people in, but not so bad that you would feel uncomfortable.
A place to go out for some mates for a meal or a place to start a pub crawl. Honestly, it would be great for both. The only very slight gripe was that you had to pay for peppercorn sauce on top of the steak and it wasnt the best ive had, but hey, we paid for it and it was still good food.
The staff were absolutely lovely and really welcoming despite the busy atmosphere of when we went. They deserve their tip for sure.

Read moreSo disappointed in this pub as some of the reviews where pretty good, we had a starter which was nice then we had a salmon and cream cheese sandwich which was 5p short of £8 well technically it was a wafer thin salmon sandwich on dry white bread with less than a smear of cream cheese and a beef an horse radish sandwich which was also dry and a micro amount of horseradish which she couldn’t taste, we ended up sending it back with no offer of a refund and said well we did offer to amend the sandwich as some customers don’t like too much cream cheese or horseradish, I mean what a load of rubbish, if your going to do that then ask the customer when ordering how much they like in the sandwich don’t just dish out a below standard pathetic sandwich and expect them to ask for more it’s awful customer service ! Certainly won’t...
Read moreWe went in here on the off-chance of getting a table and also some real ale (most places we went only had lager)we were early and thankfully they fitted us in. What a lovely evening we had, lovely pub and very welcoming staff too. Had a chat with a lovely regular too(John),we can see why it's his regular place. The menu was so good, lots of specials and not run of the mill pub fare either. My husband had sausages in onion gravy with such creamy mash and crispy onion rings and I had battered haddock and chips, The best batter ever and lovely pea puree too. And we couldn't resist pud either, I wish I'd taken a photo of the dessert board. We shared, raspberry creme brulee and lemon posset, amazing. We're not local to the area but hope to come back for another holiday in Brightlingsea. Our compliments to the lovely...
