We came here as our kids (10 years old & 6 years old) wanted to go fossil and shark teeth hunting. We only spent 2 hours here (costs £3 to park via the app) but the kids had fun. Staff were friendly and I saw a few of them down at the beach, explaining to children what their finds were.
To find the area for the fossil hunting you have to go past the outdoor cafe, down approx 3 sets of stairs, then you turn left and walk down the path to the end where there will be a final set of stairs, leading to the beach area with the red clay cliffs on the left. We acquired couple of books and some funny children's stuff that we -three adults on this trip - enjoyed a lot. Good selection of bird food and feeders. Beach is quite unique as it's made from London clay - you think they all are black stones and pebbles but actually it's clay. Plenty of information about it on boards along the walk. Also can see quite heavy...
