I've been coming to Walton since before my kids were born and there's no better place than the Naze and northern beach, for a long dog walk.
The town beach is much more 'beach day' friendly with a big tide, lots of wide open sandy beach when the tide is out (no beach when it is in) and the sea to splash around in.
But where walton comes to life is the Naze beach, with the eroding cliffs, and fossils (sharks teeth, fish bones, fossilised wood, fossilised pooh(!) and fossil shells). You'll see loads of people doing the 'walton walk', stooped over, searching for their next find.
It's a fabulous place for a dog walk, but you'll have one mucky pooch by the end of it, as the cliffs are clay and the sand is very sticky.
Worth every moment though...
Read moreWe come to Walton every year hiring a beach hut for 3 days. Our favourite part of the beach is the Naze end as it is much quieter there and we are very close to a cafe and toilet facilities. It is a beautiful beach and the kids are kept occupied all day: swimming, crabbing, building sandcastles, looking for sharks teeth, etc. There is also a small playpark at the top of the steps and another much larger one about 5-10 mins walk away. We have everything we need here and we are always sad when our time here is over. Looking forward to coming back...
