Very much enjoyed our visit to Winchcombe Museum. One of the staff helpfully gave us an introduction to the various exhibit areas. It was special to see a piece of the famous 'Winchcombe Meteorite' and also to learn about some of the town's extensive history. From neolithic times (Belas Knap Long Barrow), to Saxon significance, to its place as the capital of Mercia, to destruction of its abbey during the Reformation, to tools, people, and records of criminal activity and punishment it provides a fascinating insight into the local area. There is so much stuff to see there! They have so much on display, but it's all packed together with text printed on plain paper next to it. I retained very little. It's one of the few British museums with town maces still preserved, and they hardly popped out among the rest. Working in a museum myself, it was painful to see the potential not getting the right amount of space. This material requires at least twice the amount of room with ample space and with topics...
