Spent a lovely afternoon here with a friend and our 4 kids, two x 3 yrs old, a 1.5 in a buggy and a babe in arms in a carrier. We parked at the Jakeland fishing ponds which is by far the easiest option, although a separate business, they agree to have cars parked in their fairly large car park in return for a simple purchase from their cafe, ie instead of Pay&Display grab a quick coffee. Note that the cafe has a £5 minimum card charge so if you're feeling extra frugal take some change. The Sculpture Trail itself is accessed from the car park across a small, bridged stream and starts with a couple of short, steepish climbs over broken ground. The entire trail is off road through some lovely woodland full of bluebells at the right time of year. We went on a damp day and some of the route was steep and slick under foot. I imagine it's even better on a dry sunny day, there our a couple of open spaces you could stop for a picnic when the...
Read moreLovely walk I did with my 4 year old. Easy to park by the fishing pond and there's a lovely cafe next to it for a well deserved treat at the end. We loved looking for all the sculptures and marveled at how beautiful they were. I read on the website of the trail that this was all made by Ty's dad who created this trail as a way to honour his son's memory after he died of leukemia as a young adult. He loved exploring these woods as a child and reading this ahead made me grateful we get to do this and create precious memories with...
Read moreLovely place to spend a few hours exploring. Plenty of sculptures to find and a trip to the bubbling pond is recommended. Quite steep and slippy in places so not great for the less able, but great for all ages and dog walkers.. Parking is free in the fishery carpark and they also supply a simple map of the walk to, but please purchase a little something from their shop to say thanks. (and say hi to Winston the weimaraner too) Wear good walking shoes and take a drink and snack as you may need a rest and refreshment on...
