Even in a blowing gale Donaghadee is a lovely spot. Walking along the waterside to the harbour wall and onto the lighthouse is very nice on a beautiful day. It has been my pleasure to have experienced both weather types on separate visits here. Delighted that on my latest visit, during a beautiful clear sunny day, I was able to clearly see the coast of Scotland off in the distance. Whilst visiting during the good weather kids can blow off steam in the play area a few hundred yards from the lighthouse, along the waterfront. There’s even a very shallow paddling pool for tots. Recommend visiting here if staying anywhere near the Belfast area. We drove from Belfast during our stay and went further onwards to Portavogie and Portaferry, all along the eastern edge of Strangford peninsula.

Lovely lighthouse at the end of pier you can walk along. And see the boats. There is a ‘footpath’ along it which is smooth for prams or wheelchairs, and the main pier is cobbled. Can’t get into the lighthouse but can get up to the bottom of it.

Beautiful town and stunning scenery of lighthouse! Recommend for visit to anyone who like to explore various places. Nearby you can found plenty of caffes to have a snack.

Donaghadee Lighthouse and pier. A beautiful seaside town in North Down where you can walk along the seafront and watch the harbour activity. The lighthouse is not open to the public but at the weekend you can view(free) the recently restored Motte with its Camera Obscura and wonderful views of the town, harbour, Copeland...
