Very interesting museum combined, over 3 floors with tourist info centre. It is in the center of town with access up a cobbled entrance way. However it is still disbility accessible with a lift and toilet facilities. The staff are very friendly, passionate and helpful about the area. They will enthusiastically answer any questions you have. There is so much interesting information in the museum covering prehistory to modern day as well as the challenges to the survival of Dartmoor. They have different exhibitions from time to time, and we were privileged to talk to 2 lovely young ladies who were doing conservation and cleaning work on some of the exhibits. There is something here for all ages and you could spend hours here and not get around it all, which is why you get an extended entry pass on arrival. A must venue to visit to learn about the area...
Read moreWe visited today with our 7 year old and our baby who was in the pushchair. We were looking for a rainy day activity but were dubious upon entering that we would be able to get the pushchair around however, that was not the case. Staff kindly showed us to a lift at the back of the museum and how to get around.
We spent just under 2 hours there and could have spent longer particularly if you went with older children or just as an adult. They had lots of interesting exhibits and lots for children to look and a touch! Additionally they had an Easter trail, colouring and craft stations dotted around.
Overall we were amazed at how brilliant it was and only cost £14 for all of us!
Staff were absolutely amazing, so kind and helpful. Definitely worth a visit regardless of...
Read moreAn essential stop on your visit to Dartmoor. Situated in the lovely town of Okehampton, surrounded by nice shops, restaurants and spectacular scenery, the museum can be found at the end of an enchanting close. We were particularly interested in folklore and they currently have an exhibition of artifacts, paintings, and oddities involving local legends. Weekly talks further enhance the experience. We caught an excellent one by Ethan Perrnell, Crow man, about the ghosts, witches, pixies and disembodied Hairy Hands of Dartmoor's moors and woodlands. The museum staff were friendly and welcoming and we had some great discussions on a wide range of things. A place to return to...
