Rajpoot Indian/ Bangladeshi Restaurant And Takeaway. — Restaurant in West Devon

The food was Fantastic but the service was a big let down!! We had a table booked for 19.00 for 6 people. We entered through the door at street level and stood in the restaurant for 5 mins but no one came to greet us, we had to go downstairs and look for a member of staff! We were shown to our table and given menus to look at. There was a large group already seated maybe 20 people and all the staff seemed to be busy with them! A waiter did eventually ask what drinks we wanted. 4 of our group only wanted water as they were driving. This got tutted at and when it arrived it was tepid tap water so we had to ask for ice. Another very abrupt waiter came to the table and said "ready to order?" but we were waiting for one other person to arrive so we asked for 5 more minutes to which he replied "we are very busy" then walked away. We ordered as soon as the last person arrived. Food only took about 15/20 minutes to arrive and all the plates that were handed to us were Very hot!! The waiter wasn't sure what one of the curries was so he grabbed a spoon from the table and gave it a stir!! (We all thought he was going to taste it 😂) He was looking for pineapple so he knew which dish it was!! All the food was really good and the portions were generous! At the end we asked to split the bill and pay for our own orders as some had had alcohol and some had had desserts!! Another grumpy waiter came to the table and said "why don't you just split it between 6 of you?!! Then he proceeded to tap numbers into a calculator and gave us all a price. Bittersweet! For takeaways, 10/10, 100% recommend! For dining in, I would not recommend I'm afraid. It becomes unbearably hot and uncomfortable to the point you just can't eat. It'd been so long since we dined in, we'd forgotten this aspect. When food came, things were wrong, but that was okay, mistakes happen, but then our bill was also incorrect. It was handwritten and ineligible. We needed to split it, so we used the menu to add up our choices, and each rounded up to make sure a tip was left, but once everyone had paid, we were still short. When questioned, they became quite frustrated and weren't willing to help to see where we/they may have made a mistake, so that was disappointing. They did tend to take drink orders, which didn't arrive, so perhaps it was the missing drinks that were added? Or the wrong food? It just became a stressful evening that had othwrwise been lovely, so, no, I would not recommend eating in, but I absolutely recommend them for their takeaways, one of the best Indians I've ever...

Food was tasty but I became concerned about the difference in attitudes towards the covid situation. Some servers were wearing masks, others not! I understood the regulations were that they all had to! We reduced the members of our party down to the regulation 6 but were disappointed when a party of ten came, sat at two tables immediately next to each other , certainly less than the 2metre required unless in this establishment 10cms is the new 2 metres! There wasn't any track and trace and no guidelines on wearing a mask except at our table were given. The business was extremely busy but many of us have worked hard throughout the pandemic to stay safe and with this new Indian variant, I'm concerned for their welfare. The food took sometime to get to us , understandably but didn't seem up to the usual standards......
