A hidden gem tucked away in nature, this country park offers a tree-sheltered, well-paved trail—a definite favorite among runners, joggers, cyclists, and dog walkers on sunny weekends.

Parking is straightforward: follow Forest Farm Road (at the end of Velindre Road) and choose one of two options. The first is on your right at the rugby club car park; the second, a little further along, is a small dedicated free car park, also signposted on the right.

For the quickest access to the River Taff Trail, continue driving until you reach the gate at Forest Farm Allotments. This unmarked dead-end lane is wide enough for parking, and from here a short footpath to the left leads directly onto the Taff Trail.

A word of caution: Forest Farm Road is narrow and shared by joggers and cyclists, with just enough space for two cars to pass carefully. After rain, puddles often form along the way. Please drive slowly, patiently, and with...

The Country Park covers a few smaller areas, some more rural in their feel than others. There is the part by the Taff, which is like a farm used for activities now, plus the part around the Glamorganshire Canal which is wild with its piece of historic Long Wood nature reserve.

It is interesting how the area had evolved to become part of the industrial and rural landscape near Cardiff, then be preserved as an place of wildlife and that industrial heritage, An oasis of tranquility that has become surrounded more by housing and modern...

One of my favourite places in Cardiff North, however it has suffered a little bit of neglect in recent years, especially off the main paths. It's also worth noting that whilst the canal is an easy accessible walk for all, the trails that come off this can be very steep and uneven and require a moderate level of fitness. I've seen many a panicked walker back tracking when they realise this. Perhaps better signage and waymarkers indicating difficulty levels of the various paths at key junctions (as other Country Parks...
