Parking is straightforward: follow Forest Farm Road (at the end of Velindre Road) and choose one of two options. The first is on your right at the rugby club car park; the second, a little further along, is a small dedicated free car park, also signposted on the right.
For the quickest access to the River Taff Trail, continue driving until you reach the gate at Forest Farm Allotments. This unmarked dead-end lane is wide enough for parking, and from here a short footpath to the left leads directly onto the Taff Trail.

It's also worth noting that whilst the canal is an easy accessible walk for all, the trails that come off this can be very steep and uneven and require a moderate level of fitness.
