Mesnes Park is a beautiful example of a Victorian park. Located right in the heart of Wigan it's like a large garden with lots of beautiful flower beds. The real gem of the park has to be the Victorian Pavilion, which has the 'wow' factor on entering the park and acts as a central beacon. The cafe and ice available inside the pavilion is right up there with best in town. Fredericks ice creams are totally awesome. . The playground is very well equipped for little ones but not so great for children older than 8. . There are some outdoor exercise equipment located to the rear of the park + a very well used but tired basketball court that is in desperate need of renovation. A community project called #WiganHoops is underway to raise awareness and support for this. Visit @basketballwigan on Instagram, twitter, or Facebook. . The park is really worth a visit and I highly recommend combining a trip to the park with a walk...
Read moreSurprisingly good. Went here on a date's request and had heard some negative comments about the place. When i got there boy was i pleasantly surprised to find such a vibrant, joyful environment in the heart of warming wigan.
There is a fantastic small lake where there are ducks (and some swans!). The cafe is open at decent times on a sunday. People seem happy and willing to frollick.

My suggestion would be to have big signs that say things such as "Keep off the grass" or "watch your step you silly geese". the geese would be referring to the people. Not the actual geese that can occasionally be spotted on a special day. Haha.
I will come again, hopefully with the same date or if this doesnt go well, i will bring another. 5/5 or 10/10 if you mark...
Read moreThis Victorian-era park is conveniently located for Wigan town centre and a wonderful open space for families in the area. The play grounds are popular, and include a separate toddlers' area and a lovely kids' cafe with integral play activities such as drawing boards. This is in addition to the traditional cafe at the centre of the park. The park has some beautiful lawned areas and flower beds, and the duck pond remains a favourite spot for kids and adults alike. Some parts of the park have become very neglected, however, probably due to lack of funding: there are no longer any tennis courts or bowling greens, for example, which were key, well-used facilities for many years. Though there is a small outdoor gym area, it's pity that these open air sports facilities have not been maintained - especially in an era in which we're all being encouraged to become...
