Modern church from the post war era. Moving from the barn next door in the 1960s. Famous for the exact reproduction of the Sistine Chapel ceiling, which also includes the upper walls and windows that support the ceiling. Dedicated to the English Martyrs the church has a chapel to the English Martyrs by the font. Depicting Sts John Fisher and Thomas More. The font goes down a step as in the liturgy before baptism we go into the grave with Christ and come out children of God. The east window depicts the English Martyrs flanking Our Lady Queen of Martyrs. Including Sts Alban, Thomas of Canterbury, Anne Line and Margaret Cliteroe. As well as St Philip Howard patron of the diocese. During the day the blessed Sacrament is reserved for private prayer in the St Stephen chapel.

Took one man 5 years to complete by himself as opposed to Michelangelo and his team spending 4 and 1/2 years for the real thing. It really is amazing to see if you can go early late morning early afternoon. There's often a docent who will tell you a story about the ceiling. Donations are welcome. Best to call ahead in case there is a service or a funeral, in which case you won't be able to go in. Truly amazing!...
