The only positive
I must say the only thing I really like is the gym. Considering, I'm not someone who actively enjoys using the gym, I've found it very pleasant. It's nice, clean and staff are beyond helpful. The gym staff have given me very useful information and they are constantly checking around to see if anyone needs help. Which is fantastic.
Negatives
After being a member for the last 3 months, I must say I'm disappointed in the pool facilities. The pool itself, is far to small, it's always over crowded regardless of time of day. I don't think the design was thought off. It would be better if they opened another pool up, maybe buy some of the spare land next door to open another. Only having one main leisure centre in Kidderminster / stourport area isn't brilliant. I don't know why the council thought it was. I know many others agree. I think the council need to look into another option. It's great so many people want to be fit & active but this centre is beyond maximum capacity in terms of membership numbers (swimming wise). Doesn't help when swimming classes dominate the afternoons either - using both pools. Why I think an extra - adults only pool would be brillant. In order to allow swimming lessons & leisure swimmers to enjoy. Unfortunately, I don't think that will happen.
Swimming is the main reason I wanted to attend this leisure centre. However, it's very poor. People are rude & just stand gossiping in the middle of the pool. Something the life guards or staff should bring up & discuss with those members. I've been to other leisure centres and worked in one myself, whereby staff had to talk to members to prevent these issues. Standing at the side is fine but come on middle of the pool a big group ? Not really fair on the other members trying to exercise.
Secondly, upon joining the gym, I experienced no welcome tour, my one to one session was cancelled with no reason given. Additionally, I never received the band - (green) which allows access to the sauna and steam room. I pay for the premium membership and got an lower than average welcome.
Unfortunately this leisure centre is only interested in mass memberships & not quality of facilities for its customers. Just too many piled into a small building. Something that needs to be reviewed by the centre and council. I think having another centre - in or around the area would be completely beneficial for so...
Read moreExcellent gym with good equipment and friendly staff that you can have a laugh with . But dont seem to do anything other than the tours to show new people round and a bit of cleaning. Lots of positives but some annoying negatives that I would like to expand in here, not for self gratification but in the hope that management read it? Pool is frustrating as they do not manage the fast lane well enough, Slow people in there especially the older ones just before a class when they give you that look that we are in the wrong as we try and swim amongst them! Staff should spot this and move them into the other 2 slower lanes but they never do. The cafe needs to improve drastically. In a modern gym you cannot serve high calorie food (sandwiches with high fat content) it does not make sense. They should cater for all going to the gym not just the Moms and Dads with expanding waist lines watching their kids swim. Customers interested in fitness should also be catered for. Why not serve protein shakes like most non council gyms. I asked once, the answer was "no" followed by a pause, rather awkward and poor customer service. They are missing out on good revenue as many would buy them. Staff in this department need to be brought upto speed with the modern world with good customer service and to sell the correct products. The whole place has a council run feel about it, I'm sure they work hard but the customer service levels need improving. Its bright, clean and well thought out. 4/5 but would love...
Read moreThis is a new building, but very badly thought out. Much smaller than the town's previous centre and less facilities (in my opinion). Not enough parking, so sometimes have to park on the road or in a side street. The swimming pools have glass walls so anyone can see swimmers/children/aqua exercise classes, these are also overlooked by nearby homes & flats (I've relations in the next door apartments & can see straight into the pool from their lounges & balconies). As it's now a standard swimming pool & learner pool, there's no longer a fun pool for children which my own kids & their friends really miss. When swimming lessons are cancelled the children/families are not contacted until the time that the lesson is due to start, meaning a wasted journey. A major concern that I have is with regard to safeguarding due to the communal showers/changing area. I'm not labelling any of the centre's users as perverts, but it feels very uncomfortable showering small children alongside grown men/strangers. I certainly don't feel happy with letting my kids shower/change without supervision, even though they're old enough to. Unfortunately although the facilities are new, like a climbing wall, most of the staff have transferred from the previous centre & still don't seem clear as to what's going on at the centre or for prices, always having to pass on queries to someone else. In my own opinion I'm steering well clear & finding other local leisure centres much better suited to my own &...
