There's no doubt that this place has a fine baseball park, perfectly manicured almost like a miniature Major League Stadium. This is everything you would want in a park for your kids to play in so why would I give it three stars well because I grew up in Alameda. At the black kid from Estuary projects, we were not privileged to play on such a fine field, as participants in the Alameda Recreation League we played on the feels but we never had home games. No decent adult what I allow their kids to play on our field except for us - we could play on itplay on it. Lest we not play! This situation like this is all of Alameda mini little Major League Parks existed, McKinley, Krusy, Woodstock, Washington Park,I can't name them all, but they were all like miniature MLB stadiums except for Estuary. I apologize for it's hard to be objective when you are subjectively seething at the dog and perception of these perfect little parks. RIP...
Read moreA giant felled oak tree caused damage to the main play structure, causing all but the swings (which are thankfully shaded still) and one sad climbing item to remain. Can't wait to see what the do with the space. There's a building you can rent out for events (birthdays, celebration lunches, etc) but the kitchen just has a fridge, electric range/oven combo, and sink. There's a pool too, but it's summer of 2022 right now and at 3pm on a 95°day, it was closed, which is a crime. Tennis courts are great though, as well as the adult fitness course which is always fun to watch the kiddies try to give the equipment a whirl.
Aside from amenities, the park itself is lovely with tons of shady grassy areas (miraculously goose-poop free) and big logs to sit on, as well as picnic tables further in at the end by the...
Read moreNice park, lots of facilities, amenities, and varied landscaping (i.e not just endless lawns). Includes basketball courts, Very limited parking, but it is a neighborhood park anyway. Delightful place.
HOWEVER. The bocce court was CLOSED and PADLOCKED. WHY. The League wasn't playing. Why the eight foot bars and the chains and padlock, guys. Nobody's going to steal the oyster shells. It's not like public pools shut down whenever water polo teams aren't practicing. It's not like the tennis courts are locked up whenever instructors aren't using it. It's a public park, for crying out loud, what makes bocce so special?
Let me bowl. LET ME BOWL. Stop hogging the facilities and let me bowl. Free the bocce. Bocce...
