Twist Salon — Attraction in Alameda

For my second Twist appointment I was finally ready to go with shorter hair. Julianna proceeded to give me a great cut that met all my requirements. But the proof of a good haircut is in the at-home styling, which is why I wait to review my cuts. And all I can say is, Wow! This is a magic haircut!

In the past month I have been able to style this cut in a variety of ways, from loose curls to loose waves to partial and almost full updos to a sleek flip, all with NO heat styling, using only roller clips, or a comb, or the occasional brushing, or even just my fingers. It is no exaggeration to say that this is the best haircut I have ever had.

My issues, as before, are still with the products: 40 minutes after having Julianna show me how to finger style the new cut, my hands and then my scalp had a bad contact dermatitis reaction. At that point I belatedly read the ingredients list on the new (to me) styling products that Julianna had used and found that one has an ingredient I’m allergic to while the other has at least one ingredient I may be allergic to. (Hyper-reactive skin is no fun for me or for a stylist!) Fortunately, I was able to get back to Alameda within 30 days, and Tyler processed my unopened product return with a smile and no questions asked.

After 2 cuts I’m a believer in Twist Salon’s philosophy and the expertise of the staff, and only hope that I can continue to get my hair cut there without the use of products that irritate my skin. Here’s hoping that we can work that out. I’m looking forward to my next wonderful...

I saw Julianna last week after not getting a haircut in about a year due to fear of going to a new stylist. It’s safe to say my hair was in need of some major TLC. As it turns out, I had nothing to worry about because Julianna exceeded my expectations. She’s not only a kind human, she’s also a great listener. From the get go, we sat down a talked about my current routine, my hair concerns, and what I wanted out of the appointment that day. From there, the whole appointment was built around that conversation, and the results are truly impressive. Never have I ever left an appointment with a happy balance between volume and definition in my hair. Most of the time I leave with defined but lifeless waves/curls and have to wait for the next wash day for my hair to snap back into shape. Not this time. As the day wore on I saw even more definition and bounce appear, and that was when the excitement kicked in. Then I used the knowledge and products we used at my appointment on the next wash day and got even better results! I haven’t seen so many soft waves/curls in my hair in a very long time. One more side note: I took those curls to the beach for a cold and windy engagement photo session, and they photographed beautifully AND held their shape. 2023: Amazing experience! I went for my first time yesterday and Hayat gave me the best hair cut of my life and really showed me how to take care of my curls! I will never go anywhere else as long as I’m living in Norcal. The parking was easy, the place smelled amazing, and Hayat was so helpful at explaining every step of the process and educating me on the products I should use and steps to take going forward to care for my curls. They are curl experts there, I’m so glad I found this place. They also took before and after pictures for me and WOW!!! What a huge difference!

2024: Update I came back a year later for my next haircut, and Tami gave me an equally amazing experience and such a great refresher on how to care for my hair. I love this place and will always come back, they are true professionals here and listen to everything you have to say, and can answer any questions about hair.

2025: 2nd update, I now come here every time I need a cut, and Erin is my go-to, especially because she helped me transform my bangs! She really knows how to do curly bangs, and cut all types of hair! I have pretty fine thin hair but she can do all hair types!
