Couldn't find anything. Shopped here once before a long time ago, and from what I can remember the selection used to be much better. Also, the staff didn't seem very friendly or welcoming, at all. I don't expect Bloomingdales level service or anything, but I do expect people to be polite and maintain a comfortable environment, at the very least.
As soon as I walked in I was very distracted by a loss prevention woman who was yelling into her walkie-talkie/radio thing at a coworker who (from what it sounded like) was working in the back, watching the cameras at the time, saying "NO, you CAN NOT take your break, I NEED you to STAY ON THE CAMERAS!!! CAMERAS 4, 5, AND 6!!! STAY ON THE CAMERAS!!" and even going so far as to add "I don't care if they only steal a sock", which she also repeated, VERY loudly, at least 3 times. The best part is that I never even saw them stop anyone, so whoever they were so worried about obviously never even took anything. Maybe that was the point, to be a deterrent to any potential thrives or something, but given the clear dedication of the loss prevention staff that seems totally unnecessary, and quite frankly I think it was beyond overboard.
My point is that I totally understand that theft is a big issue in the bay area, and it's great that lady obviously loves her job and takes it VERY seriously, but a loud display like that only further cheapens an already obviously cheap brand, and potentially makes paying customers feel uncomfortable and/ or even unsafe. Furthermore, she's part of Ross Loss Prevention, not a guard of an armored truck or a bank...I'm pretty sure no members of her "team" are going to be taking down any seriously dangerous criminals or stopping any bank heists anytiime soon...so what could possibly be so important that one of them can't go on break? Seems to me like a case of a person who's been granted a tiny bit of power, maybe for the first time ever in her life, so she's taking it and running with it...even at the expense of her coworkers and/or anyone else.
Anyway, like I said, I couldn't find anything so I left empty-handed, and it was impossible not to notice how both of the cashiers stared me down as I was leaving, I guess because I didn't buy anything? Sorry your selection sucks? I didn't know I was required to make a purchase every time I went into a store. Actually, I almost did buy some sunglasses, just to feel like I didn't waste my time, but I didn't want to wait in the slow moving line after multiple other customers who had carts full of stuff just for that...besides, they were about to close, anyway. If anything i did them a favor.
In conclusion... steal a sock, face the...
Read moreRacist! My mom (Hispanic) had a terrible experience here today (April 25th 2024). She mentioned that she was only going to buy some cookware. Before going to the kitchen section she passed by the clothes. She grabbed one pant (worth $6.99) and her wrist started to hurt since she has arthritis so she went to the front with the pant to grab a cart. The security (Asian) and another person that work there surrounded her like if she was going to go running stealing the pant. She said she was walking normally, grabbed the cart and ignored them. The security started following my mom all over the store to a point where she started going to random places just to mess around with the people following her. While paying at the front all her cookware the cashier (Asian) threw a sensor in her bag while she was paying — she said she saw him do it but acted like she didn’t. She then proceeded to walk out when the sensor started beeping. She went back and a lady (Asian) started to check the bag then a male walked passed them with a full backpack (no shopping bags) and the sensor stands started to beep but the lady let him go stating that it was my mom’s bag and he just smirked and looked at the cashier and the cashier looked the other way. When the lady noticed my mom only had cookware and she found the sensor (that’s usually on clothes and shoes) she let my mom go saying thank you for shopping at Ross. This is the third time my mom has had a racist experience here at the...
