What an amazing trip. Booked the Trophy Grayling Trip. Being from Colorado catching the monster 8" average grayling we have I didn't know what to expect or how/if these so called "Trophy Alaskan Grayling" would compare to the monsters we have back home. Joking aside, these pictures were the average size all day (The larger one is a really good fish but definitely possible to land one that size). The serious fisherman could easily land 50+ trophy sized fish if the hatch was similar to that on this trip. Even if it wasn't, you still could probably have those types of numbers if you had some powerbait or crawlers (JOKING on that part). Be prepared to get a forearm workout for the ages. Not joking. Both Reini and Tyson are great people and very personable. I didn't feel like I was a dollar sign or that it was a "get em in and out" type of experience. I felt that they genuinely cared about the other fisherman and I. I felt as if I were fishing with the boys, which is huge for me, as I care more about the people and the experience than I do landing "The One". You get the best of both worlds here in that regard. Reini and Tyson are both true students of the fly game and are very knowledgeable. Every single strike Tyson was on point telling me to high stick em as I hardly pay attention talking and joking around. Tyson went above and beyond with service and I cannot thank him enough for a truly great day, as well as world class guidance/tips/tricks to up my game, great laughs and great stories. Reini was very involved helping the other fisherman land great fish and he is an amazing teacher. You will become a better fisherman going with these guys or get a great start if you are new to the game. My wife is pregnant and wanted to come and they made accommodations for her that I cannot thank them enough for. 6-24-25 - Our Third Trip!

We just finished our third float fishing trip with AkRivertours—and it was another fantastic experience! Our first two half-day trips down the Chena River were great, and today’s full-day float was just as amazing. We caught more Grayling than we could even keep track of!

Our guide this time was Tyson—he was incredibly patient with our beginner-level skills and had a true gift for putting us right on the fish. Thanks to Tyson and the whole AKRivertours team for another unforgettable day on the Chena. We’ll definitely be back!

2023 - Trip 1 & 2

This summer my husband and I (and sister and her husband) went on a fishing trip down the Chena River with AKRivertours. None of us had much experience fly fishing, some less than others, but the trip was awesome just the same! Our guide was John. Don’t let John's young age fool you! He is super knowledgeable, courteous, an excellent guide and extremely patient! I can’t express how patient!! We all learned a lot about fly fishing that day and felt accomplished thanks to John and his kind words of encouragement! It was a fun and relaxing trip down the river. All the guides showed up on time at the meet point and all were friendly, helpful and courteous.

My husband and enjoyed the trip so much that we took our friends, who came to visit the very next week, on the same fly fishing trip! We had them go with John, as their guide, and my husband and I went down the river with Greg this time. Greg was equally as amazing as John and very knowledgeable about the history of Fairbanks and all things fish!! Greg told us about an ice fishing adventure that AKRivertours offers and you can believe we will go on that trip one winter soon!
