Man, I had such an amazing week on this beach. There is a parking lot just enough for about 10 cars (including golf carts) so make sure you show up early to contest for the spot. Dont park on the road or on the curve because you WILL get a ticket.
Out of 6 days at this beach access, we had two AMAZING days of calm water (yellow flag), the turquoise emerald green water the panhandle is known for, and watched the dolphins play in the water while we dipped in calm waist high pool the sandbar created with the help of high tide the night before.
The beach is serviced by local beach ambassadors who make sure you obey the local ordinance and ensure you are equipped with best of the knowledge of locals. (A lady from OH and chilldude from Dallas! Thank you for an amazing week). You can get two lounge chairs and umbrella packaged purchased via internet for $70 No glass containers, open fire without permits, and oversize popup tailgate tents near the water (you can set them up closer to the dunes)
Such a perfect representation of 30A experience and why the panhandle continues to tug on my heartstrings 5 years...
Read moreParking is almost non-existent if you don't get there early. Probably only 15-20(?) parking spots in a small parking lot. Leaving only a small alley way to park along side of. They call it Lakewood Drive, but it looks like an alley. Parked there the last day of our vacation and got a $100 parking ticket because I was too close to a STOP sign? There was no signage of a distance restriction, but ticket said I was 15'6" from sign and code is 30 ft. How was a person to know that!? I thought being a car distance away was acceptable. I was also trying to be courteous enough to leavea as much room behind me, for as many cars to park there as possible. Approximately 12 cars did parked behind me. (That's all that will fit there) Really ruined the last day of our family vacation. Here I spent thousands of dollars in that county and tipped well every place we went and that's the thanks I got! See pic. I'm the...
Read moreThe access to the beach and the pier are well designed and user friendly. The Federal and Local Governments, Architect’s and Engineering teams deserve credit for this area. The beach access and the Pier are welcoming.
Each and everyone that participated deserve the credit and thanks. It was a privilege to experience it as a design professional who understands. Since I am now disabled I have the distinct privilege to see accessibility and the importance of it from both user and designers perspective.
Architecture and Design are helping heal a TBI. I lost my memory of a time that was good in my life and a simple trip to the beach has brought back memories of my life and friends and colleagues. Nice job on the dunes and the whole area. 1 of many things. Humility is a...
