Based on the reviews, looks like anyone's experience is a hit or a miss. We decided to have our kids birthday party there. The booking experience was good. I've celebrated their birthday a couple of times at Skyzone in Sterling- so I wasn't expecting anything too different.
Now onto the day of the birthday. I pulled up the front and somehow managed to get all the party stuff inside by myself - along with my toddler. Ok - probably just a hiccup because they had said they'll help me unload.
We were told to register, but were given no instructions after that. I knew from my past experience that I'm supposed to get one of the steel rack things for all my party stuff and birthday gifts. I had to go and ask for it, then they found an empty one and assigned it to me. Did I say that by this time my party host was already switched twice. They were no help to get things on the rack. I had to juggle it all - at the same time greet and guide my guests, handle my toddler. Well, maybe they're swamped - inconvenience for me but not too big of a deal.
After an hour of jump time, it came to the party room - and here's where things went down really fast. I had got my party decorations, and told the host. They were nowhere to be seen. I went to the front desk and had to ask to get the room at the promised time so that I can put up the decorations. After some back and forth- we got the party room 1. Party host nowhere to be seen. They used to help me with the decorations in my previous experiences- maybe the rules have changed. Again, not too much of an issue. I quickly put up the decorations with the help of my guests.
Time for cake and pizza. We cut the cake (I think the party host was still not around). My understanding is that they take the cake and cut it out for the guests - nope. Again, my guests stepped in. Also, the biggest inconvenience that we start to feel by that point- the room was super hot. There was no ventilation. When we asked about it - that's when we're told - oh, the AC is broken. It takes 2-4 weeks to get it fixed. This really annoyed me. Then it was time for pizza. They distributed it to the kids, adults and I said they could have the pizza (and the snacks and fruit that we had got ourselves) - that went as expected. Again, my guests were very hot, and some were starting to leave because of the heat. Party host is MIA by now. I went to the front desk to ask about it. They said someone will be there to help us. I gave up and cut+distributed cake myself - with the help of my guests. It was absolutely sweltering by now. Oh - also, I know they say they provide plates, glasses, forks etc. At the time of cake - there were no forks. We used some plates from sky zone, and others that I had brought. Thankfully I had got forks as well - i used them. My guests started leaving. I didn't notice that some left without goodie bags. Guess what- party host still nowhere to be seen. I asked a guest to take care of the cake distribution and rushed to catch up with some folks who were still at the gate. Gave them the goodie bag. Unfortunately couple of them had already left. By this time, the entire party feels like a sauna. I resigned - that's how the party was. Nothing more I could do about it.
Time for wrap up - still no party host. One of the front desk ladies came and helped a little. We ended up doing almost everything ourselves - Thanks to some helpful guests. Time to load everything to the car - by now I knew no one would help. We made about 10 trips and were able to get everything in.
The happiest I had been there was when I was leaving.
Maybe they were having a bad day, maybe they were short staffed. But I think a lot could be done to make our experience tolerable. It was so bad at one point that even a portable fan would have been appreciated.
Btw- the way they calculate payment- i had no way to verify if they added the exact number of guests. No breakup etc. I had given up by this time. Paid the whole about *more than 1000$ by this...
Read moreNOT SAFE! Management, I beg you to take a look at and address the state of your facility. I came across so many hazardous safety issues that had me worried for any future kids who visit here. I saw someone posted photos and I wish I had done the same in hindsight.
I brought my 5 and 2 yr old with me for the little leapers hour and we had the whole place to ourselves. Seemed like a dream! However, the moment we stepped onto the trampolines I started to worry. All of the trampolines on the free jump area were ripped and holding on by a thread at the connecting beams. We went over to another area where, thank God, they had a little sign saying it was out of order. I look over and there’s legit, a 2 foot hole in one of the trampolines, and mind you, this is on the second level. I can only pray whoever made that rip wasn’t harmed.
The rock climbing wall. First of all, the majority of the foam squares in the pit looked like they’d been chewed through. When I got to the rock climbing wall to climb it with my son, I look down and there’s an old looking 2x4 coming off of the base of the wall. Seriously?? Jagged wood and a gaping hole of about a half a foot coming apart from the wall! When I went to pull myself up onto the wall, the first grip I tried was screwed so loose on the wall that it was spinning around and around. At this point I was starting to get angrier and angrier about all the potential lawsuits they could dodge with the huge waiver you sign at the front. I digress.
The ninja course. When we got over there, one of the young employees was lying down on one of the structures just staring at his phone. I couldn’t help but think of the long list of tasks that he should be keeping busy with; the first of which would have been to do a deep clean of the main floor which was sticky and covered in crumbs and dirt 😝. Anyway, the floor of the ninja course is supposed to be a safe landing place. It was nothing of the sort. It honestly looked like a half deflated air mattress covered in makeshift patches. It was so deflated that there was a huge gaping hole around the entirety of the structure, such that if a kid fell in there, I’m not sure where they’d end up. Again- this is on the second floor. Is there some sort of support beam under there? We have no idea. All I know is, it was precarious at best to put your foot anywhere on that course.
I was completely and utterly disappointed by this. At the beginning, I was considering a membership based on the fact that this place has SO MUCH POTENTIAL to be an extraordinary resource for families looking to have fun on those too hot or too cold weather days!! But the moment I saw the condition of the facilities, I was just blown away at how they’re still allowed to operate with this amount of safety issues.
The worst part? They have stacks on stacks on stacks of unopened equipment just sitting on the main floor, with a big sign saying “more ways to play!” But I’m just thinking— you don’t need to add anything else until you just fix and restore what you already have!!
I get that these places are mainly used for birthday parties, and with the overwhelming demand for that, I’m sure this place must just get ransacked by the sheer volume of hyped up kids. But, maybe consider scaling back on the amount of jumpers allowed at a time, or arrange for reserved tickets ahead of time or something to mitigate the damage done to the equipment.
Really a big shame. If it were kept in drastically better condition, we would be making this a regular play place as a family....
Read moreWARNING!!! DO NOT GIVE THIS BUSINESS YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION!!!! This place is scamming people and has been for a while now it seems! I just realized I’ve been getting an on going charge from these guys. I took my daughter out to Sky Zone at the beginning of summer so she could have some fun. We were there for 2 hours. So far that trip has cost me $89.61 and potentially rising. When we got there they told us they weren’t accepting walk in’s and required appointments only. So they send me over to a kiosk to sign into and said it had to be card only. We couldn’t start playing until we signed in and that makes sense, it’s a jumping park so filling out a waiver does track. What they aren’t telling you is that you are signing up for a monthly repeating membership. I completely missed the one in July but I caught it this time. My bank said they’d put a stop to future charges from them and even made it sound like I wasn’t the first person calling about this situation this summer. Come to the review section here to find out some people have been fraudulently getting charged for over a year! Scroll through the low reviews on here. You’ll hear a bunch of stories just like mine. How is this still happening ing and why haven’t these people been stopped? That’s the last dollar Sky Zone will ever get from me but what about everyone else? They need to be warned and this company needs to be stopped!
UPDATE: Finally got a chance to talk to someone at the location and had a lengthy, cordial, if a little bit heated conversation with an employee there. When I explained my situation and what I was looking for to resolve this, (abbreviated in a nutshell), the gentleman informed me that this does happen, that I signed the form without reading the fine print, that this was a life lesson and from a corporate standpoint, it doesn’t matter how it came to be that I signed the form, but I did in fact sign the form. He was right though. I was made a fool for signing the form at the request of the employee not being forthcoming with me exactly what it was I was signing. No one put a gun to my head, and I failed to read the waver I was instructed to sign to allow access for two hours of jump time for my daughter. He did try to make it right by claiming he cancelled the membership and offered me free jump passes to use at their facility but that was where I let him know that this was a life lesson, that I signed the forms and I bought my never going back to any SkyZone facility on planet earth ever again and warn everybody I ever meet to never go to their establishments, risk your money or bank accounts because not only are their methods of business predatory in nature, but they’ll proudly let you know that they got you for your money and that it happens from time to time and it’s your fault for letting them take you for your money. Don’t trust SkyZone!
PS - I told the man to look at these 1 star reviews from their location and he told me that all the money issue reviews were from Springfield IL, not VA, but literally look right here in the Springfield VA review section at the 1 stars. In the past year there have been several people getting taken for their money and they are blaming us for...
