Double check your receipt to make sure you are not OVER CHARGED. This Lotte grocery store is very dishonest. They often list a lower price on a price tag and secretly charge a higher price at check out.
Today, I shopped at this store. During checking out, I noticed a cashier (an old Korean lady) typed a higher price than a price tag for an item. When I pointed out the error, the old lady was unhappy but reluctantly corrected the overcharged amount without saying a word of sorry.
After check out, I checked the receipt and noticed they also overcharged me for another item. I went to their customer service, initially, another Korean lady insisted that the price they charged me was correct. I lead the lady to the place with a price tag. She then told a lie by saying they wanted to increase the price tomorrow but did it too early today. She stated that the price they charged me was lower than their normal price. I said it does not matter what their so-call "normal price" was, I just want to pay the price on the price tag. This Korean lady becomes very RUDE and stated if I don't like their price, don't shop in their store.
It is a common practice in this store to advertise a lower price on a price tag and then secretly charges customers a higher price. If the customer did not notice being overcharged, this store could make BIG profit. It is a malpractice of this store.
So if you shop at this Lotte store, check your receipt to make sure you are not...
ย ย ย Read moreI was very saddened upon finding out that the Lotte near my house in Fairfax closed shop awhile back. Despite its griminess and limited parking, it held a special place in my life as it was one of the Asian grocery stores we frequented. So when it closed, I was all "otoke ์ด๋ป๊ฒ?!"
Thankfully, Lotte didn't move too far. And with its move, it has only gotten better. The store is huge, twice the size of its former location! Plus, since it is brand spankin' new, it's also very clean. They've got all the groceries you need from fruits and veggies to fresh food, frozen dumplings, prepared/packaged food like kimchi and other banchans, sauces, rice, and more. There's a wide variety of both Asian and non-Asian groceries here. They also have kitchenware and household items like bowls, chopsticks, aprons, etc. Lotte also has a cosmetics stand and a bubble tea/coffee/snack stand near the fruits and veggies section.
There's even a small restaurant/food court, Sang Rok Soo, located inside the market. You can order jjigaes, bibimbaps, galbi, and other entrees. Great spot for lunch or a quick dinner. I ate here for dinner once, and the service is super friendly. Food is decent too; I prefer the Korean restaurants in Annandale, but I could definitely come back for a fast and cheap meal.
Conveniently located just off I-495 in the Ravenswood Shopping Center (home to Swiss Bakery and Pastry Shop, Hong Kong Express,...
ย ย ย Read moreYou need to know what you're looking for if you can't read Korean (I can't). You need basic Spanish for customer service, though you don't use quite as much Spanish here as you do to shop the Manassas Park H-Mart bakery. But remember that this is a Korean store serving one of Northern Virginia's densest Korean enclaves. They would still do good business if not a single white person went there ever. Remember that, don't be outraged that this is not a space made for you and you have no privilege here, and enjoy the huge selection, great prices, and the amazing Korean deli.
Yes, you are a foreigner in what is not and never has been YOUR country, most of those people have legal status or citizenship and they choose to speak Korean. America has no official language. If you hate it here, you'd REALLY hate South Florida, where everyone speaks Spanish, will not speak English with you because they have wealth and power of their own and don't need to beg for yours, and makes more money than you and your Gainesville McMansion. Guess what, having access to the most diverse food options in the country means living in the most diverse place in the country. You can't have on without the other. Get over it snowflake. Part of the fun of these places is you don't know what you're getting even if they DO romanize it. Lotte just doesn't, but no...
